Does anyone use one of these?
Are they any good?
Do you get leakage?
How do you clean them?
Can you feel them when they are in?
Is removing them tricky- I mean, do you get splashes?!

Thanks!

Yes
Yes, they're brilliant
I don't - I can leave it in for ages. If you have heavier periods I guess you have to empty it more
During period - if I'm at home I empty in the toilet, rinse in sink and reinsert - out and about I empty and then just wipe with toilet paper - some people carry little bottles of water to rinse. In between periods boil to sterilise.
Can't feel it at all when it - so much better than tampons.
Not messy at all - does take practice and it helps to bear down, but overall it's clean, quick and comfortable. I'd never go back to anything else now.

upagumtree · 18/05/2009 15:26

exactly what Habbibu said

Habbibu · 18/05/2009 15:27

apart from maybe adding " 's in", to the Can't feel it bit...

upagumtree · 18/05/2009 15:32

...and that bit to

upagumtree · 18/05/2009 15:33

"too" even

lottiebunny · 18/05/2009 15:35

I have one. It is fantastic, I no longer have to worry about carrying a whole bunch of tampons about when I'm on my period.

I have leaked twice, but its not leaking like with tampons where you almost get a gush when you leak but more a gentle flow. Both times were my fault because I forgot to go and empty it.

I can't feel it when its in, hence the forgetting to empty.

I find first thing in the morning can be a little tricky to remove (I cut all the stem off) but I either give it half an hour to descend or bear down so I can reach it. I don't get splashed, it comes out upright then you can tip it out into the toilet. I find its cleaner than removing and inserting a tampon.

I also would never go back to using a tampon. Its made my period a lot less hassle.

Bleatblurt · 18/05/2009 15:35

I find I always end up a blood on my hands but I'm a clumsy sod.

Itsjustafleshwound · 18/05/2009 15:36

There was an article about 'Mooncups' in the latest edition of Easy Living - I was all on board until it mentioned that to be REALLY eco friendly it was a good idea to water your household plants with the collected blood - eco-friendly bloodmeal compost !! Just yuck!!

FrannyandZooey · 18/05/2009 15:37

yes, what habbi said

Habbibu · 18/05/2009 15:41

Well, fleshwound, it's not obligatory!

TrinityIsLovingHerLittleRhino · 18/05/2009 15:42

exactly what habbi said

bloody brill things

wingandprayer · 18/05/2009 15:43

So where's the best place to buy a mooncup please? Not seen them in Boots locally but nenver really look if I am honest.

Itsjustafleshwound · 18/05/2009 15:45

Good thing I don't have any then!!

foofi · 18/05/2009 15:45

They do have them in Boots - also various online places. Franny used to sell them I think?

fruitshootsandheaves · 18/05/2009 15:46

Does anyone use one of these? Yes
Are they any good?
Yes although it took me a few months to get it in the right place.

Do you get leakage?
Yes I do get a bit, usually because it has overflowed though. I got lots at the start before I got the hang of it.

How do you clean them?
Same as everyone else although with more mess. I find it hardest when out and about. Its ok in the cubicles but then you have to pull everything back up when your hands aren't all that clean IYSWIM!

Can you feel them when they are in?
Yes I can sometimes even with all the stem removed. Its more of a I know its there kind of sensation.

Is removing them tricky- I mean, do you get splashes?!
Never had any trouble removing it but it does sometimes make loud sucking noises and have had a few messy occurances when its come out fuller than I expected!

foofi · 18/05/2009 15:48

May be TMI but I'm on to my 2nd one now. After using it quite happily for about 18months or so someone on here told me I should be sterilising it so I tried but it went tomato-coloured from the dishwasher and I put it in a saucepan and burnt it dry. Still worked but looked horrible
Was in a bit of a hurry to use the new one and accidentally cut more than I meant to off the stem, so be careful to do that in stages if you're not sure!

Itsjustafleshwound · 18/05/2009 15:49

try www.mooncup.co.uk for stockists ..

hairtwiddler · 18/05/2009 15:51

Yes, used for about a year.
Yes, they are the best invention i've ever experienced.
Have leaked once, have no idea why... wasn't too bad though.
Clean in sink between changes, scrub with toothbrush, soap and hot water and sterilise in milton in denture pot between use. (tip - don't forget and leave in for three days, you WILL have to buy new mooncup)
Can't feel at all.
Removing takes a bit of practice, but no splashes or leaks, no.

Get one, I never regretted it.

PMSLBrokeMN · 18/05/2009 15:54

Does anyone use one of these? Yes

Are they any good? Hell yes!

Do you get leakage? Only the first couple of times I used it, now none at all.

How do you clean them? I'm usually at home when I empty mine so I use hot water/soap. Inbetween AFs I just use some Milton.

Can you feel them when they are in? Nope, I did cut the stem completely off though as it was bothering me.

Is removing them tricky- I mean, do you get splashes?! I don't have much trouble as I've got long fingers but TBH I don't have much trouble pulling it out and keeping it upright at the same time. And muchmuchmuch nicer than tampons sucking out all your bodily fluids, or pads which just make me feel like I'm sitting in a dirty nappy

VinegarTits · 18/05/2009 15:55

When out and about in public, i am the only one who comes out of the cubicle looking like i just slaugtered a pig?

PMSLBrokeMN · 18/05/2009 15:55

hairtwiddler, why did you need to buy a new one after leaving it in the milton so long - mine was ok, at least I think it was?

VinegarTits · 18/05/2009 15:59

I keep mine in a pot of water with a tiny tiny amount of milton until my next AF(so it there for a whole month) it comes out looking like new

MmeLindt · 18/05/2009 15:59

Basically the same as Habbibu said.

I get less period pains with the mooncup, in fact my only problem is that I forget it is there

hairtwiddler · 18/05/2009 16:04

I used about half a sterilising tablet in a denture pot. It seemed all sticky on the surface - like the silicone had melted!
I couldn't trust it after that and decided to invest in a new one.

Pinner35 · 18/05/2009 16:05

My local Boots stock the Mooncup and I'm v tempted to get one but....what's the difference between a Mooncup and a Femmecup (or whatever its called).
