I think the c thing is 'with' and I wonder if the ABX is antibiotics? Have you had a chest infection by any chance?

brimfull · 15/05/2009 23:09

with antibiotics

wrinklytum · 15/05/2009 23:10

tx (treated?)
with (the c/line bit)
ABX i'M unsure of ,if specifically to do with cardiology/radiography or a scan.If tablets/medication would say antibiotics.

I went to have my heart checked today, as I have been having chest pains for a few months. My ECG was fine and I was sent for xray and blood test. When I went in to Dr he asked me if I had any lumps in my breasts or if I had any bowel problems (I have). Odd question I thought. He then sent me on the treadmill which was fine, blood pressure fine too.

Called me back in and asked me if I had had a chest inf, I said I had had a rotten cold a couple of months ago and a productive cough since. Never smoked. Bit overweight.

He said I had a shadow on my lung and put my on fairly strong antibiotics for a week and then said I had to come back in 4 weeks for this xray. If it was still there I would need a CT scan.

The questions about bowels and breasts are pretty standard I think. Both reflect symptoms which can be serious and some people find embarassing so won't mention unless directly asked. Therefore - when the doctor has you cornered they will ask questions which may seem unrelated but in fact build up a general picture and help them to see what may or may not be wrong with you. Soounds like you've got a reasonable explanation for your symptoms though and hopefully the antibiotics will sort everything out.

wrinklytum · 15/05/2009 23:41

ok,I think your Gp has written a referral and given current history about what has happened-you have been treated with antibiotics for a chest infection, which it probably is,but is sending you on to the hospital for further tests just incase it isn't a chest infection as an explanation. He is just covering all bases and sounds like a good and thorough GP.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 15/05/2009 23:48

Ahhh sorry - this wasnt my GP. GP had sent me to clinical measurement unit for heart check. This was heart doc. He was looking at xray that he saw today which had a shadow on it. As he is a heart doc I was a little suprised at the breast and bowel question.

Does a chest infection show a shadow?

Thanks for replying by the way

I think chest infections can cause gunk and fluid in the lungs which would show as a shadow on x-ray???

MoreSpamThanGlam · 16/05/2009 00:15

Nothing to worry about then NL? [hopeful smiley]

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 16/05/2009 08:55

Well I'm not a doctor but like I said below you've got a good explanation for your symptoms and appropriate treatment so in your shoes I wouldn't be worrying.
