Why no periods?

Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this as I am still not convinced it is 'normal'.

I gave birth my emergency cs a year ago. fterwards I went back on the pill after my 6 week appointment and before I had had a normal period. Each month to start with I had a period but it was light, took longer than before to arrive but lasted quite a few days then.

However 5 months ago, I stopped having periods at all in my no-pill days. I have been to the doctors twice about it. Both doctors saud that this is okay and that some woman, especially in the first 18 months after a birth, experience this. Even more likely when on the pill, as it isn't a real period anyway. I have also done several pregnancy tests just to make sure!!!

Has anyone else been through this? Does it sound normal to you? When are they likely to return (pregnancy testing goung to cost a fortune soon)? Any advice please?!

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't sound normal to me. Even though a period on the pill isn't a 'normal period', it is still supposed to give you that period for peace of mind. There are certain types of women the pill does not work for, but these are few and far between, and they usually have periods. Have you thought of phoning NHS Direct for a bit of advice? Sometimes it helps to get a professional second opinion, and they've always come up trumps for me.
Sorry I can't help more.

Some women don't have periods when on the pill, but you always have before so does sound a bit odd. I'd go back and ask the doctors again, or maybe see a contraceptive trained nurse- I've sometimes found them better than GP's.

I was on the pill in my 20's and to begin with it was fine. After a few years I began to bleed at all sorts of strange times of the month. My GP tried switching the brand but that didn't work. In the end I got fed up and stopped using the pill. Everything returned to normal then.

Do you feel as if you are having a period , ie getting cramps but not bleeding? If you are, then you may have adhesions sticking your uterus together, which might be blocking the flow of blood. This happened to me, and was sorted out by a D & C and futher treatment.

No, I don't get any period-type feelings at all. When not on the pill I get really bad pains, sickness before and during my period. That's why I went on the pill as a teenager a few years ago now. Whilst on the pill before ttc I was fine - short, light periods, no pains, etc. I am now on the same pill as I was before I was pregnant.

I am due to move home very soon - waiting for my 2 week notice letter any day. When I move I will be joining a new doctors straight away. I was planning on getting a proper health check done then with the nurse - like a well woman check. Hopefully, they will give me a third opinion - one that makes me feel a bit more reassured.

I was just concerned really that the cs operation could have caused it. Mind, I don't have any pains at all.

Thanks anyway.

ooh hmb I am adhesion lady as well. (bladder stuck to uterus). How many sections have you had? I'd like to go for a baby number 3 but last section and adhesions have scared me....

UPDATE

Last month I got my first period after what must be a year; the day after I moved house (and a week after I gave all my packs of tampons and towels away)in fact. Not had one since as I doubled up my pill for my holiday so will have to wait and see. I had even gotton around to organising a nurse's appointment to discuss it now I have moved - might put it back a bit now to see what happens.
