i am currently pregnant with my third child, and keep having these breathless attacks. it feels like my lungs are being squeezed and i cant get enough air into them. i then go all dizy and have to sit down.

thought it was iron deficiancy but been on spatone for 2 months now no improvement.

docs are not very helpful, but it is really impacting on my day to day life, as i cant climb stairs or do anything physical without it bringing on an attack

house is a bomb site, kids running me ragged, husband is to busy to help atm.

help!? anyone have any ideas?

If you're very anaemic spatone won't do much good as it isn't very strong, perhaps you need something stronger. Spatone didn't help much with mine but ferrous sulphate tablets helped immensely.

Incidentally, if you're finding things hard right now, Homestart are brilliant for giving you a hand, and you can self refer. I did when my ds was very young and I was struggling with depression. The homestart volunteer used to come round, help me with a couple of jobs like hoovering or feeding ds while I washed up or tidied round, or even just watched him while I had an hour to myself and it was a bit of a lifeline for a while!

Which doctors have you seen?

I would take breathlessness in pregnancy seriously, and would expect it to be investigated.

If you get no joy from your GP could you speak to your midwife, or walk in centre or A&E?

breathlessness in early pregnancy can be hormonal, I get it. Later on because it's pushing up and can squash everything, but you probably know this if it's your third. Could also be anaemia, when do you have your next blood tests?

candyfluff · 13/05/2009 17:50

anxiety can do this too

Undiagnosed asthma? Do you have allergies? Or asthma/allergies in your family?

MANATEEequineOHARA · 13/05/2009 18:58

I have had this problem on and off, I think it does not help that I tend to be boarderline anaemic most of the time, but actually I am starting to see a pattern with it, and for me it is a very physical manifestation of anxiety.

The first time this happened I was still with my sod of an ex, he told me I must have a serious heart problem, not surprisingly, that made my anxiety worse! I had a chest x ray, and various breathing tests, all were fine.

I am surprised drs have not been more helpful, esp as you are pregnant! How far along are you? Is there a chance it could be the position of the baby squishing your lungs?

TheNatty · 13/05/2009 19:06

im 30 weeks now, been having the problem since 20 weeks tho.

i am slighty aneamic, i cant take the tablets they make me vomit.

i dont think its the baby squishing my lungs, as i used to get this in certain positions and changing my posture would ususally help.

doctors are being really dismissive, "oh its the baby" "oh you anemic"

its ob not those things as this is my third and ive been anemic worse then this before and not had such an extreme reaction to it.
