I've become very squeamish about being prodded and poked down there since the births of the DCs. I know I'm supposed to take Nurofen an hour before, but any other words of wisdom/encouragement??

Aargh!

It won't be as bad as you're expecting it to be. Just make sure you take the ibuprofen and take a pad in case theres some bleeding

minko · 13/05/2009 09:39

Thanks for that. I'm working myself into a bit of a state...

Just noticed your name - are you sure you want to be Mrs James Martin. I used to work with him. He's a bit of a knob!

Is he? he always seems so lovely!! Obviously i'm not really MJM just wishful thinking!

Don't worry about your coil fit and try to relax!!

minko-its fine Is it the mirena? I have the regular copper coil but my periods can go on for 2 weeks!

SusieDerkins · 13/05/2009 09:45

Best thing I ever did. Having it fitted is ok - no more uncomfortable than a smear. Just take it easy for a day or so. Good luck!

minko · 13/05/2009 09:48

Not a mirena one, it's going to be a plain copper one. Mirena has the same hormone as the implant I had before and I bled virtually constantly with that. So I'm hoping this will do the trick...

I'd be up for sterilisation but the family planning people don't seem so keen to do that...

Many thanks to everyone earlier. It was OK, pretty much like a smear really. Having quite bad cramps now though.

Hope it works out OK, then I'd be sorted for 10 years which would be great!

was wondering how you got on-glad all ok

sueanna · 13/05/2009 23:11

Hi Minko, glad it all went OK. I've had mine in for about 6 weeks now and...WOW... for the last 2 weeks I've been singing the songs from Bridget Jones at the top of my voice - its Great! Everyone thinks I'm a looney, but they've all noticed how much happier I am and more energy I have.
My initial insertion wasn't that pleasant for me as they found that my womb was upside down, so they had to straighten it out first - not nice! Since then I had spotting for about 10 days around my normal period time but that was all.... no more super plus mega thick army issue tampons for me anymore...yeah!
I hope you feel as great as I do once youve settled into it. Let us know how you get on.

MinnieMummy · 14/05/2009 08:58

Sueanna - your womb was upside down???!!! Sounds painful..

sueanna · 14/05/2009 09:59

Apparently your womb is supposed to be a kind of and upward curve, which allows the MC to be inserted easily. As mine was pointing downwards there was a chance that the insertion rod would have pierced the wall - not the outcome we wanted!!

I was suprised to find out, but it might explain why neither of my children wanted to /could come out properly!

Anyway all is fine now...and very comfortable, and luckily I won't have to worry about it for another 5 years. TBH it wasn't THAT bad, just a bit uncomfortable for about 5 mins. I don't mind going through that if I feel this good for the next 5 years!!!
