How long should i feel pain?

Large filling to molar tooth on monday- cannot bite on it-and unless i take 600mg ibuprofen every 4 hours it throbs even when i don't bite.

Think it can take a while to settle if I remember. Give it a week and go abck if still in pain. Sympathies...

i took ibuprofen at 7.30- and i'm sat here now totally pain free...untill i let my teeth touch.

trouble was this dental visit was my first in years (phobia) and i had a wisdom tooth taken out too- which is healing great.

so the mear thought of this filling having been done 'badly/wrong' absolutely depresses me- as i had brainwashed myself to believe that this dentist was not only good...but sensative to my fears.

If it was a large filling sometimes the tooth can take a while to settle. If it doesn't the tooth may need a root filling. This doesn't mean the dentist has done anything wrong. If you are nervous he/she probably didn't want to worry you by mentioning the size of the hole in your tooth or the fact you might need a root filling!

If you cannot bite on it & it only hurts when you touch your teeth together, it sounds like it may be high in the bite.

Easy to remedy, the dentist just needs to take some off the top (which will not affect the actual filling).

If it has been done wrong, it is more likely to be hot & cold sensitive. It would also be H&C sens while it settles.

thanks.

will carry on with painkillers...hopeful that the pain is gradually getting less...or is that wishful thinking?

If it is high, it is wishfull thinking. It will need to smoothed down. No harm in giving it a day or so more.

so...if i get no worse over weekend...I could deal with this next week?

Its mine and my husbands birthday on friday...and to be honest..i am scared that if the dentist starts rectifying it now...and it isn't just 'the bite' then i will be even more miserable than i am now???!!!

with painkillers...it really is hardly painful... the eating is ok if i eat on the other side...and if it came to it...i'd rather have the tooth out as since he took out the wisdom tooth... i have had absolutely NO discomfort in that area!

If you can live with it, should be fine to leave. I would just recc that any sign of it starting to feel worse, then get seen asap.

Maybe make an appt now for next week, so you are sure to get in, can always cancel it.

MUM23ASD · 14/05/2009 08:50

....so now it's hardly hurting even when i bite....maybe it is going to settle down...maybe it was just a big filling- and i was battered and bruised?

MUM23ASD · 14/05/2009 08:54
