LORDOSIS - anyone else got this?

WellingtonBooze · 12/05/2009 22:25

I have just realised Lordosis is what my problem is! Sticking-out bum and I look pregnant because my belly sticks out, not because it is very fat. It is a badly curved spine, basically.
So, does anyone else have this, and what can be done to try to stop it being so bad?
I would love it if someone could help me with this - my shape has been making me feel miserable for years, and now I know why, I want to get it sorted!

I will have to bump again in in the morning then.

Anyone here with any experience/expertise ?

I think that an assessment with a good physio should be your starting point. They can work out which muscles are weak, which are too tight and get you going on some exercises to sort it out.

Good luck!

I can see that I will need to do exercises, but I have been like this for about 15 years, so I have a lot to undo!
I was wondering if there was a brce or something that could help?

Possibly, but unless you want to wear it forever, you need muscles that are capable of holding you in the correct position and joints that are happy to be in the right position.

Thanks for replying IWIWMO (love the name and agree with the sentiment!).
I was thinking that wearing a brace in between doing the the muscle strengthening might help 'retrain' them quicker. I can adjust the right bits to change the shape of my spine back, but can't remember to keep holding the pose, so wonder if a brace/belt might help with that?
Are you a physio/osteo, or do you have lordosis?

I'm a physio, but I don't specialise in musculo-skeletal problems (hence my sketchy advice!)

WellingtonBooze · 13/05/2009 21:31

Thankyou again IWIWMO . Lovely to have the words of an expert!
I do pilates, so am quite aware of my core muscles, but obviously need some one to one advice as to how to sort this out
Now I have learned more about lordosis, it seems so obvious this has been my problem for years and years. I want to look normal again!

My ds1 has been diagnosed with Lordosis and was given some excersises to do for a few weeks but that was it. He just gets on with it and nothig has been done or mentioned since. He has the sticky out bum/tummy and compains of backache if we walk a lot on days out ect. We have him working on the wii fit of all things to help his balance and muscle control.
