I have quite a sore achy jaw, I realy hope it isn;t the first sign of tooth ache.

I've had a look and can;t see anything obvious.

Have had a pretty nasty cold for a couple of weeks and am pretty conjested so I wonder it is related to that rather then my teeth?

Anyone have any idea.

I am self medicating with ibprofen and wine but it is pretty sore.

Thanks

i've had jaw pain that turned out to be sinusitis once. antibiotics did the trick.

milou2 · 09/05/2009 19:15

Me too, I worked out I had blocked sinuses by sharply shaking my head. Ow, it felt as if there was a brick inside there.

I sorted it out by drinking more water, so the goo would be more liquid and drain away naturally. I did a bit of breathing hot water with Friar's Balsam in it, but that was really just for entertainment. I might have set up our humidifier by my bed over night too.

I was so glad that it wasn't toothache!

at milou's idea of entertainment.

(sorry)...but I had a jaw ache a couple of years ago that was the start of toothache (infected wisdom tooth to be taken out).

If you do think it's dental, watch out for the weekends - it is impossible to get any treatment, even when you are in agony unable to open your mouth on a weekend. If you're still suffering towards Thurs/Fri next week, get seen by someone.

curlygal · 09/05/2009 19:20

That's set my mind at rest a bit - it would make sense as I am so blocked up.

Don;t think I have any inhalant stuff apart from karvol which is a bit puny for the sheet volume of gunk that must be in my head right now.

Thanks

I do agree with seeing a dentist in good time next week if it is still causing pain. Drinking more water is good for a cold anyway.

I went to the dentist with jaw ache and tooth ache (some years back) and he realised I had a sinus infection (although I cannot remember if I had to get the ABs via the GP). The pain changed as I tilted my head. I know the symptoms now!

get checked out if pain radiates to neck/shoulders and/or down arm/into chest. also watch for feeling nauseous/clammy/sweaty. especially if over 35yrs old.

Aching jaw can be a classic symptom of bruxism - do you grind your teeth?
I kept getting an aching jaw which got worse and worse and it radiated to the neck too.
Worth seeing the dentist, as others have suggested - as s/he will be able to have more of an educated stab at what's going on.
If it is teeth grinding, you can wear a mouthguard at night to prevent damage to teeth and gums. Incredibly common.
