Fractured spine

About 15 months ago I fell on stairs and fractured my L3 and L5 spine. I had an x-ray in A&E and the fractures where missed. I did not take any days off work because I thought I only had a soft tissue injury.

About 6 weeks after the injury I discovered I had 2 fractures. Now 15 months later, if I lift/carry something I feel as if I have a heavy band across my back.

Anyone else had spine fractures? Does this feeling ever go away? My gp just says do not lift/carry, but its very difficult to do that especially at work. Surely by now I should be able to carry on as normal?

Advice needed thanks.

I too fell down the stairs and broke my back in March last year, so probably around the same time. I had a 2 month old son and later found out I had got pregnancy related osteoprosis.

I am still in lots of pain. (I fractured T8 & T9, but found out in Jan this year also 2 further up aswell) I didn't go to the doc till a week after, thinking I'd just pulled my back, and it took 3 further weeks to get x ray results. I think it didn't help that I'd carried on as normal - well as much as you can in agony when breastfeeding and carrying a baby!

I've had physio, accupuncture and medication all of which have stopped because didn't make improvement. I feel I will be like this forever. Sorry not helping you, just amazed to find someone in similar prediciment.

I'll let you know if I find a cure, but I'm not holding my breath!

For me I too have a band of pain around my chest, and my back feels 'weak'. Using my arms eg, washing up, cooking is what really gets me, and sitting for a period of time. Also find lying down, front or back is uncomfortable. I've got one of those foam toppers, which has really helped.

Let me know how you are getting on and if you getting any helpful advise xx

Ow!! Don't have experience of this but was crippled with back problems for 4 years...

Have either of you tried specialist physio for back problems? I don't just mean normal physio (although that might help), but someone who specialises in helping this kind of thing. I got mine on the NHS after my back operation and it really helped (the operation took away the pain but I still couldn't move properly or do anything). I doubt it will be available all over the country, but it's worth a try.

Thanks for the replies. I think I might have to be realistic and just except things may take time.

Had not thought about physio, may go and try it out.
