Dental X-rays, how safe are they?

Our dentist insists there is no need for lead aprons because the dose is small and well targeted. He says he hasn't seen one for 8 years. Do other people still use them?

Had one a few days ago and no aprons here!

He's right. It's less of a dose then having your finger x-rayed. They no longer use led aprons for this as there is minimal scatter from the x-ray. We use them if there's a parent/carer in the room with a child/adult who's having an x-ray though.

Aprons on who? Patient or dentist? They dont use them at my dentist - the dentiast and technician hide round the corner when they take the xray.

I was told that I didn't need the lead apron as very small dose which cut across the face. I was 6 months pg at the time!

Guess it's not normal practise now then. I know they are small doses but small doses over time mount up to big doses!
