Pain in breast - bit strange

In the last few days I've had a gripping, vice-like sensation on the outer side of my my left breast - not all the time - it comes and goes.
I'm not breastfeeding, not about to have period, not especially heavy chested (though its the bigger of the two . Not done anything over strenuous that I can think of.

I'm thinking - wait a few days to see if it settles down. I'm right, aren't I, to be fairly sure this isn't anything sinister - can't feel a lump or anything. Sister just having breast cancer treatment, so a bit more cautious than usual.

I don't need to hot-foot it to GP do I?

up to you. I would, given sister having bc treatment.

My doctor says if it hurts it's probably not something nasty. Paranoid about my breasts too as also have a sister who had mastectomy and chemo last year. Sounds to me like you might have pulled a muscle. I probably would give it a few days and go to the dr if it gets worse or doesn't stop.

I had something similar a few months ago, except it was under my nipple - very tender. GP said she couldn't feel anything there and to wait till I'd had my period, then go back. The pain went away after about 3-4 weeks. I guess it was some kind of infection. I think it's pretty rare to have pain in something sinister like cancer (not impossible though), so I wouldn't panic. There are a few things that cause pain, like inflammation around the ribs, blocked ducts (which can happen even when you're not breastfeeding) and referred pain from somewhere else.

I'd maybe wait a few days and see how it feels, then phone your GP if you're still not reassured.
