He has, he revealed the other day (), been having bad headaches for a few months now - doesn't usually get them. Saw GP, then neurologist, who has referred him for MRI scan as he also has one dilated pupil.

I'm thinking aneurysm perhaps? Very hoping not a tumour, obviously. He didn't mention any other symptoms, but then he isn't exactly the most open about such matters.

MN wisdom, experience, opinions etc welcome.
Want to be ready iykwim, but also avoid irrational panic.

Hi, tigana,
I'm sorry I can't offer any solid information here but if an urgent MRI has not been done, they probably don't think the situation is changing rapidly. Do you know when the scan will be done? Has the neurologist made any suggestions? Hugs.

tigana · 06/05/2009 23:34

16 may, about 3 weeks from seeing neuro.
Dad isn't very forthcoming so not sure what neuro said exactly. He implied they weren't overly worried...but then...he was also trying not to worry me.
GRrrr, wish my family communicated like a normal family ( you know, shouting, crying etc!!)

My dh has a brain tumour. Even if your Dad did get this diagnosis, it's not automatically the worst case scenario. Dh's was removed 5 years ago, he's fully recovered and the only permanent side effect is loss of sense of smell.

I'm desperately hoping this is reassuring rather than contributing to irrational panic!

If it makes you feel any better my uncle had a permnantly dilated pupil from a knock to the face. Not caused by tumours etc at all

tigana · 12/05/2009 16:23

aaah...the voices of calm reason and reality

See, normally I am a pretty sensible and non-hysterical type...but the fact that a brain tumor could be small/relatively easy to treat disappeared from my mind as soon as Dad said he needed an MRI of his head!

Small? Dh's was huge! 8cms across, he actually lives with an 8cm hole in his brain you can't tell though (much)

tigana · 12/05/2009 16:36

8cm...crikey...well, I did say small / relatively easy to treat...as in might not be both...

I remember your threads about your DH now ProfYaffle and glad to read he is doing ok.
