I am sick of being in pain, what pain relief (stronger than paracetamol) can I take when pregnant?

Even if it's on precription? I'm going to the doctors again later.

I am willing to beg the gp.

Might cry to see if that helps.(not joking)

Cocodomol. What's the matter?

JustCallMeGoat · 05/05/2009 11:59

gp told me codeine (sp?) was safe in pregnancy. ask your gp.

why are you in so much pain?

nickytwotimes · 05/05/2009 12:00

Aw, princess.
What hurts?
You can get some full strength co-codamol (much stronger than the over the counter rubbish) or dihydrocodiene. I am on dihydrocodiene atm. It gives you a break for a while though it has side effects, including extreme sleepiness and spaced out ness, but prferable to pain, yes.

And do cry - it is how you feel.

I have damaged my coccyx.
I have another thread somewhere....

It f***g hurts

It is really getting me down.

Hurts when I sneeze, laugh(rare these days), move, try and stand, roll, walk etc etc

Paracetamol is doing nothing atall.

I have hot water bottles but it's hard to keep them in position and baths at nightime.

poor you, let us know how you get on with teh gp.

theDreadPirateDavina · 05/05/2009 12:30

have you tried stick-on heatpads? Our local pound shop does them - not as good as the posh ones from Boots (they can be a bit lumpy) but sooo much better than tablets for back pain (and this from someone with a small pharmacy int he bathroom)

rempy · 05/05/2009 12:33

codeine. or morphine. or any opiate derivative.

No anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, diclofenac) no tramadol.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone.
They all sound so serious and scary. I don't usually take anything stronger than neurofen.

It's weird because I keep thinking maybe I should just put up with it(don't want to hurt baby) and sometimes it's not too bad. I can always feel it, but sometimes its less iykwim.
But then I try and stand etc and it's such a sharp pain. And I can't lie down all day!
Getting up of sofas and chairs is the worst.

Well I went and I didn't cry! I got a prescription for co-codamol 8mg/500mg. Only for 3 days though. She said if I don't take the max dose then they will last a lot longer. She said to try and only take 1 at a time.
Possible side effects were respiritary problems to baby and withdrawal issues

The gp was lovely although in training and called through to a different gp to check on everything! She also called the hospital and spoke to someone, I think a gynae registrar.

I have ordered a coccyx cushion from Amazon aswell. I really hope these things all help.

TheThreadPirateDavina I asked about those but she wasn't sure if they were safe to use...she didn't call through to the gp about that.

I took one tablet about 15 mins ago and am currently sitting in a non relaxing but less painful way. I hope the tablet works. Will let you know.
