my son started getting unexplained itching all over his body which i had already seen a doctor about a couple of weeks ago who said he had mild eczema for which he gave me hydrocortisone cream. i took him back again yesterday and the doctor could not give me any answers so prescribed phenergan. today we've found red spots all over the upper part of his back which when we put tcp on did go down a little but they have little yellow heads on some of them. i thought chick pox started on the tummy and chest. any ideas?

It could be folliculitus, which is an infection of the hair follicles, DS2 who has eczema gets this regularly. We can often defeat it with TCP or germolene but sometimes it's stubborn and we need to use Fucidin H (a hydrocortisone and antibiotic cream). He's got it all over his legs at the moment. The first time he had it it was on his upper back. I'd get the Dr. to check it out.

Hope this is helpful.

Agree with doddle, our ds also has eczema and gets folliculitus particularly on his face and back. Have you put the hydrocortisone on his back (it should help if it is)? We have to just be very careful what we use on him, have found soya oil bath stuff has helped loads.

what is folliculitis as i think thats what my son may have..drs havent a clue!!!

Doddle · 30/04/2005 20:29

Folliculitis is an infection of the hair follicles usually caused by the staphylococcus aurea bacteria. Not only does DS2 seem to suffer from it almost permanently at this time of year, he gets it when he scratches his eczema, but i've just had a really nasty bout of it my self.

It presents as what looks basically like a rash of pussy pimples. They can be close together or widely spread apart.

It clears up quickly, for DS at least, with the Fucidin H cream. I, unfortunately, ignored mine and ended up with an enormous abcess under my arm requiring lancing and massive amounts of antibiotics. If it is folliculitis then it should go quickly with the right cream. My Dr. now trusts me to diagnose DS's so I just ring him up for a prescription. Don't know why I didn't self diagnose my own!!!!

Absolutely to the above. my ds suffers with excema and has had little pus filled spots regularly...and they seem to move location. For a long period, they were on his wrists. next all over his bottom. Now the poor bambino has them all over his arms...and as its so warm, its difficult to hide them. Other mums always ask me what they are! ...as i guess they look chicken pox like... We have just been given Fucidin..so fingers crossed, it will work soon!! doctors really didn't have a clue what to use on it. Dermatologist today has prescribed ...Trimovate...??? so need to pick that up from chemist... DS also had a spot that turned into abcess...poor soul.

Hi just a word of warning, in case DRS didnt say- Trimovate and Fucidin could poss lead to skin thinning so use as sparingly as you can. Once the skin has thinned it will be more prone to soreness and ezcema in the future. I know this because I have severe ezcema.

couldn't believe someone had gone into this and answered my question after....4 years!!lol
