Is it a good idea to go to GP if one had particularly grotty cold just now?

Wouldn't normally but if the best treatment for dreaded swine flu is early use of anti virals and keeping oneself locked up then surely you'd have to know you had it to take action? Only GP could confirm that you did.

Do you see what I'm getting at?

The advice is to call NHS direct and they can assess. If they really suspect a problem I'd imagine someone would bring you some antivirals at home. In all the news reports people are described as in isolation at home when it's a confirmed case.

In an outbreak of pandemic flu the government will have a special phone line that people who think they have flu will have to phone which will authorise the prescription of anti-virals. GPs wont be able to do it.

MrsTittleMouse · 03/05/2009 15:56

No, it wouldn't!
You don't want to infect anyone else, as everyone else has said. Also if you are able to MN then it's very unlikely that you have flu. I had it when I was a student and I couldn't lift my head off the pillow and was sweating and shivering uncontrollably. I always thought that it would be like a really bad cold, but it really is completely different.

I think I have hayfever but it made me wonder, just in case it gets worse tomorrow.

Was trying not to think about it [Swine Flu], but the number of people snivelling all over me at the bank yesterday got me thinking...too much.

Is just rare for me to have a cold in Summer, especially when the DC haven't had it first, i.e. brought it home from school.

Being PG is making it feel yuk as am limited to Paracetamol as treatment.

Can you take Piriton in pregnancy, and how are you supposed to tell difference between hayfever and a cold?

There is a lot of hayfever at the moment, I believe that pollen counts have been pretty high for the last 2 days.

If you havent been in contact with anyone who has Swine flu then is not likely you have it. If you are worried contact NHS direct.

hobbgoblin · 03/05/2009 16:31

Ahh, tigger. I have been suffering since yesterday (South East) just got used to idea that hayfever (I'm usually tree pollen and never normally badly affected) was behind me!

tiggerloves - the government have said that line won't be ready til the autumn. Lets hope the bug behaves til then.

tiggerlovestobounce · 03/05/2009 16:37

not good news!

How pregnant are you? I found that when I was past about 4-5 months I didnt get hay fever when I was pregnant, and not for about 6 months after the baby was born.
