Had contraceptive implant taken out and they have left something in my arm

Anyone had this?

Had the implant taken out a couple of weeks ago as I wasnt get on with it.
My arm still feels irritated and I can feel a small hard thing under the skin, much smaller than the implant rod (prob about the size of a staple)

Do I need to go and have another anasthetic injection and be cut again to remove it?
What will happen if I leave it?
Any ideas what it could be? its very thin.. maybe part of a needle?

Was it implanon? If so should only be one rod to take out. Did they have any difficulty in removing it? I think you should get it checked out. FPA has an advice line you could call. More information here www.fpa.org.uk/Information/WherecanIgetinformationandadvice but its only Monday to Friday and may not be open this bank holiday. There's also info on the implant if you search under information booklets.

It was implanon yes.
There was only one rod in there before but now theres a small thin thing in there!
It must be part of a needle I think from the anasthetic.
It did seem like they had trouble taking it out, I was busy looking the other way though and trying not to hurl (I'm very squeamish!) although they said afterwards all went fine when I asked!

Thanks for that link. I will call them on Tuesday and maybe the clinic that took it out too do you think?

It might be scar tissue from the implant. It can form a thin ridge of scar tissue where it was, as some scarring can occur around where the rod was.

It's certainly worth getting it checked out but I doubt it's part of a needle - they don't tend to flake off and I would hope the staff would notice if they were missing a needle after doing the anaesthetic!

oh god I dont know then, i'll feel like a total twat if i go in saying theres something in there when there isnt!
but it really does feel like there is! plus it feels irritated and itchy, a bit tender to touch - would that happen with scar tissue?

It might do. Scar tissue can be itchy, lumpy and sore.

I would get it checked, no harm in doing so and I'm sure they won't mind at all.

Hello - it's probably scar tissue from your original implant which can feel very hard and sore but will go away eventually. However, NO GP or Practice Nurse will make you feel silly for getting it checked out and would far rather you had a five minute appointment than sat at home worrying.
Ring after the weekend and get your mind put at rest
