Allergic to Sanitary Towels - Any advice on alternatives or natural products?

Since having DS2 6 months ago I have developed allergies to firstly plasters and now to Sanitary towels and liners, they make me itchy as if I have thrush but I haven't.

I have tried most of the mainstream brands and they all seem to cause the same reaction.

What i'm looking for is a natural alternative that is less likely to cause a reaction. I have googled it and have seen the Mooncups and also the Natracare range and the Cottons range which I think are a Boots product.

I'm at the end of my tether with this now and would appriciate any advice or experiences.

Sorry, no advice but the penny has just dropped as I think I have been suffering from the same thing! Couldn't think what was causing the itching tho!! Have tried the Natracare range in the past and I think they would be fine for a normal flow but I have quite heavy periods since dd2 so they are not up to the job (tmi?)

I get this type of reaction to the towels with the plastic backing. I use the Cottons range, which aren't just in Boots, I've managed to find them in Tesco and Waitrose as well.

Recommend mooncups - very very comfortable - much more so than tampons, and feels much cleaner than towels.

Mooncup or washable pads.

Lots of options for washable pads including all natural ones (I stock some that are completely organic cotton, for example). They are really easy to use - you just rinse them after use with cold water and stick them in a tub of cold water then wash in the machine.

I found that by using cloth pads (and a Mooncup) my periods got lighter and I had less period pain.

I use washable pads or tena, which I've discovered is less irritating than natracare. Not sanitary towels but they do they same job.
If you're in a position to use a mooncup I would.

Mooncups rock, and much better for the environment than towels and pads IMO.

Thanks everyone, think I might give the Mooncup a go and look at some washable pads also. Less pain and lighter periods would be a bonus!

Reikizen hope you get sorted too!

I have the same problem, and I have washable pads. I love them so much, I just want to take them to bed and cuddle them (not being paid to advertise, honest ). I got mine from an American maker, but unfortunately postage is quite dear just now.

There are so many different types - if you're going down this route, it's good to shop around a bit to get something that suits you. I used this site to read reviews of different types.

Never tried a mooncup (had a lot of illness and surgery and sticking things up me was too painful) - had thought I might do in the future, but I think I love my pads too much!
Have fun shopping!
