My partner has been unwell for three days, started with sore throat, he has been in bed today and yesterday. Very pale and feels run down. Today he feels a bit achey and exhausted. He does not have a temp.

Just when should you know to worry about getting swine flu. We live in Surrey and as far as he is aware not been in contact with anyone ill.

The only time he's been out mixing in crowds was on Sunday when supporting me run the marathon.

well advice is to phone NHS direct or your GP I think (to avoid going out and spreading it)

so, I think that's what I would do. give NHS direct a ring and see what they say, they'll prob know more about it!

Give NHS direct a ring or that helpline that's being set up for this .

Actually not sure if it is a helpline or an information line but might be worth a google.

I think you need to worry when your throat starts to crackle

Sounds like a flu-y virus to me. Stay in bed, lots of fluids, ring the doctor if he's not better in a day or two.

Who needs 6 years at Medical School?

well you really do never know, esp if you were surrounded by lots and lots of people during the marathon.

it's better to be safe than sorry isn't it

BCNS · 30/04/2009 22:33

there is a normal buggy viral thing about tho.. i've felt really pants for a couple of day with those symptoms, along with a dodgey stomach and a delightful temp.. I'm not oinking yet .

bed and fluids.. and a hot toddy.

sure he'll be fine .

hf128219 - ha ha ... i'm so tired I read your post then read all the rest before i actually realised what you said... i think i need some sleep.

I'm sure its normal flu - just para.

Since my dad got diagnosed with cancer last year, I think everything my family has is serious. Need to get a grip!

... my dad is at the end of his battle and looks like he has beat the big C!

If it's flu he won't be a bit achey, he will really hurt all over, and he will have a temperature. The test is seeing a £50 note on the floor and not being even vaguely interested in bending down to pick it up!

Sounds like he's just got a heavy cold, tbh.

If it makes you feel any better I am currently under my duvet on the sofa trying to get over flu. It started with a sore throat (on Sunday) then headache and high temp and has now caused sinusitis and an ear infection. Yesterday I couldn't even move from my bed.
It doesn't help that I'm 11wks pg so there is very little I can take although I have now been given some ABs so hope they will kick in soon.
Anyway in terms of reassurance I hope it shows that there are other bugs and flu's out there at the moment.
