what could be causing dd2's bloodshot eyes?

dd2's eyes have been really red yesterday and today. She is not rubbing them any more than usual, and does not seem bothered by it.

But her eyes are shockingly red. It looks as though she has been crying for hours (she hasn't) - they are red rimmed, and also quite bloodshot.

There is no discharge, and she is not unwell.

Any ideas?

could be sickening for conjunctivitis?

has something gone in it and she has rubbed it?

hayfever?

smudgethepuppydog · 30/04/2009 19:31

Hayfever? It makes my eyes red and watery.

silverfrog · 30/04/2009 20:09

don't think conjunctivitis, as my two normally get gunky eyes as first symptom (or I am such a crap mother I don't notice the red bit first )

hayfever - possible, but I thought always watery? dd2's eyes aren't watery at all, and she's not sniffy either (somethig else I associate with hayfever, could be way off here thoguh)

nothing in her eyes, and not rubbing at them.

hmmm, am resisting googling, as will probably find out she's about to go blind or something!

don't google!

if you have a good local pharmacist then i would take her tomorrow ...

allergic conjunctivitis = hayfever affecting the eyes - pollen counts really high at the mo.

bargainhuntingbetty · 30/04/2009 20:12

If you gently pull down her bottom eyelids and they have what looks like little white blisters on them, then it is probable that it is heyfever, It could just be that she is allergic to one kind of pollen (tree, grass, plant etc) and this is her symptom. My DD has heyfever andd depending where we go depends on what symptoms she has.

silverfrog · 30/04/2009 20:12

def not going to google 0- google is your friend if you have some info to go on, but in this case would throw up all sorts of dire warnngs, methinks

could try a pharmacist, I guess - will see what sort of mood dd1 (ASD) is in tomorrow.

There's always wait and see too - my common mehtod of parenting

just idly curious, really.

would her eyes not be itchy as well though? and bothering her? (have no experience of hayfever at all)

will check tomorrow for blisters - she's asleep now (she's only 2, so can't ask her about itchiness etc)

NNot necessarily itchy no. I would take the wait and see method too tbh. Faling that take her to the gp and get it checked it cant do any harm,
