Exhaustion - GP not really interested - do you clever lot have any ideas/experience?

I am exhausted, completely and utterly exhausted. I have just had blood test results, my iron, iron stores, full blood count and thyroid are all absolutely fine.

I also had a small internal bleed over the weekend, I am in process of being referred for an endoscopy to check that out.

GP has no clue what might be up. I have also had a few fainting incidents over the last couple of months and frequently have stomach pain and diarrohea.

I don't think it is an allergy or IBS as I have kept food diaries and they don't indicate that either of those things are likely.

I am thoroughly fed up of being so so knackered all of the time. I sometimes nap in my lunch break at work in the toilet I am so tired and always sleep on way to and from work and normally go to bed about 10 and get up at 7am so I think I am getting enough sleep.

Any thoughts? Or anything you think I should request a test for?

Didn't realuse that salt could help low blood pressure, very handy to know!

I don't drink a huge amount of alcohol (although have this week ) normally but probably have a couple of glasses a week.

Consultant suggested I cut out wheat, milk and yeast initially. Have endoscopy on Wednesday. He is wanting to rule out Crohns Disease and he is also going to try and think of possible reasons why my bloods were elevated, they were some liver function ones.

Feeling a bit better this weekend though so hoping it lasts!

definitely, definitely find out what your thyroid levels actually are.

The TSH is IMO the important one; trouble is, the NHS have a threshold of 5 or under as 'normal' but the latest research now shows that TSH should be supressed to nearer 1.

So you could show as normal but still be in fact in need of thyroxine treatment. It's worth googling.

Good luck, I really feel for you x

Sounds like PVF to me - similar symptoms to what I get with Fibro, I get a lot of pain as well. DO you get any pain in the muscles - not the joints?

Ewe · 16/05/2009 20:17

Yes I do Saltire, often a very sore and achey back and neck but feel much better after massage so definitely muscular and my leg muscles are quite painful if I walk/run when I am feeling particularly bad.

I did ask GP what my levels were but he told me not to worry as they are well within normal levels. Will see if I can get specifics though slowreading.

Good luck with getting a diagnosis. I struggle with constant tiredness (falling asleep during the day), IBS, joint pain etc and one helpful GP told me that I'd benefit from "getting a job" - I a SAHM.

B12?

Ewe · 16/05/2009 20:20

Just read about PVF and I can tick off most symptoms... says it's very hard to diagnose though and I can't think of a specific virus that would have triggered it. I've had so many nasty bugs!

He sounds about as helpful as the GP I first saw LilRed, his suggestion was almost the complete opposite and I am tired because I do have a job and a child. We obviously can't win!

I guess if they can't find anything wrong with me I will just have to accept that I am just like this.

I have a part-time job. My consultant reckoned this was perfect (ie he could sit on the fence).

I was at my very worst in the summer holidays and in a way I think it dragged on at the end whereas if I had been going to work a bit I would have felt better - but as a teacher the pupils are only there in term time (which is what makes me feel better).
