I had it when i was 20. No problems at all.

EldonAve · 29/04/2009 19:24

why do you need it?

SlartyBartFast · 29/04/2009 19:25

government advice apparently, certain nhs workers, must be nationwide.

will they check your immunity first or not?

ilovemydogandMrObama · 29/04/2009 20:23

Am supposed to have it as last pregnancy picked up I'm not immune to rubella, and there isn't a single vaccination apparently, so need MMR. May have it with DS next month...

DisasterEggs · 29/04/2009 20:26

I'm being nagged to have this. Am avoiding it as long as possible because I'm a wuss . I strongly suspect that as I haven't caught either measles or mumps when others had it as children I have some natural immunity to those. I also know I''m Rubella immune through pregnancy screening. So I can't really see the point of being jabbed.

SlartyBartFast · 29/04/2009 21:58

yes, did persuade them to check immunity,
i too am a wuss

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 29/04/2009 22:00

I've had 2 jabs, never had measles/mumps/rubella so have no immunity to them. They were all through training with the NHS.

SlartyBartFast · 29/04/2009 22:01

well that's 2 of you at least,
and 2 wusses

I had it when it first came out. I must have been in my teens. I'm fine. My mum had already had me vaccinated against measles as a baby and I had the rubella one in school but as there was no separate mumps vaccination I was given the MMR. My mum decided that it was better than catching mumps later inlife.

howdoo · 30/04/2009 00:57

I had to have it when I emigrated to the US. I have had mumps and rubella but I couldn't prove it (my medical records didn't go back that far), so had to have the full MMR. It was fine, can't remember any problems/after effects at all.

Ozziegirly · 30/04/2009 04:35

I had it a couple of months ago. Not a single side effect. Not even a slightly painful arm.

I had a flu jab on monday though and my arm is bruised and really painful. Give me MMR over that anytime!

lulalullabye · 30/04/2009 04:41

I had a blood test recently and still show immunity from birth I would get that done first but if no immunity you should definatly get it done.

SlartyBartFast · 30/04/2009 10:07

that's good to know.
i did read if you were born prior to 1970 you shoudl be immune.

but will take on board that there is no probs with it.

I had MMR between my two boys as a blood test during my first pregnancy showed I wasn't immune to rubella despite having jab at 13.

I was quite unlucky and had side effects, but just mild doses of the illnesses rather than anything that was a problem. I do remember feeling shite on and off for about three weeks. I do think it's quite unusual. Although it did make me feel a bit guilty about maybe not being as understanding of grumpiness from my DS1 in the weeks after his. Guilt, guilt.

SnortyBartFast · 30/04/2009 22:20

oh no,
guilt is a very popular emotion when it coems to our dc's isnt it.
