I didn't have the PG pessary so no experience to share on that side I'm afraid - when I was examined prior to them popping it in, I was 2-3cm dilated, so they induced by rupturing my membranes instead. This experience was completely painless, and labour kicked in in about 2 hours.

Make sure you ask the MW to explain procedure fully. Are you definitely having the pessary, or might they use the gel?

Also remember, babies seem to have a tendency to make an appearance shortly before induction is due - the mention of the word hurries them out!

Good luck, and don't worry!

I had the pessary induction, putting the pessary in and out was fine, it felt a lot like a smear test. They put it in, you lie on your side for half an hour so it stays in place then they leave it 24 hours to work. I was kept in hospital and I assume that's standard. Labour can start within those 24 hours, it didn't for me, so they broke my waters and then gave me something to start contractions. All doctors and nurses strongly recommended I had a epidural as they said contractions go from 0-60 very quickly with in induction, you don't get the gradual build up and the adreneline build up like a natural labour. I have to say I'm a wimp and took every painkiller they had, and labour was fine. Biggest downside was once they have given me the drugs to start the induction I wasn't allowed to eat, and I was starving, esp watching DH tuck into all the sweets I had packed in my labour bag.

Im not sure if i should choose a pessary or gel,Im sick of curries and pineapples though, so anything will do. Thanks for advice.

i was induced with both my dc's. First time 5 years ago they used the pessary and second time the gel. As far as pain etc. both were relatively painless (or as much as these things can be!). Pessary didn't work, gel did but that may have been because it was my second labour. Induction sounds scary but at least you know the end is in sight after weeks of waiting. The biggest pain was that because i was fine, both times i kept getting moved down the pecking order as women in actual labour came in...frustrating to say the least. Good Luck. Oh, and i'm with lobsters, take the drugs.

I was brought in for induction with my first 2, dc1 I had already started so they did ARM, 2nd time as lobsters said pessary was just like smear, I didn't have to ly on my side just stay in bed for half hour, but by the time four hour check came I was 4cm and contracting every 10mins they did an ARM again

Had the gel 4th time round - I was like you elliepac got moved down the list for two days til I had a hissy and they fitted me in!

The waiting was the worst thing, I was induced 'cos of the size of my last baby (10lb 11oz ) and the fact number 4 was heading the same way (she turned up at 9lb 30z).

There were 3 of us getting induced at the same time - I had the gel and walked around for about 2 hours and when they came to check I was nicely in labour. The other 2 ladies both had to have a second dose of gel to get them started but they were both first timers so I think my body just knew what it had to do and got on with it

TBH it was just the same as going into labour naturaly except I knew when it was going to happen.
