is it worth the ewwwwwww factor of having your eyeball poked around in? I long to be free of glasses and we can afford for me to have it done but the idea still grosses me out a bit. Will it change my life???

I will watch this with interest, as I'm in the same position. I'm just not sure I can face the actual procedure

wilkos · 25/04/2009 21:12

YES!

Had mine done in May last year as I got fed up of faffing about with lenses and my dd trying to grab my glasses. was the best birthday present i have ever had.

it was pretty uncomfortable having it done and for the first 24 hours but i immediately had better than 20/ 20 vision

I was very short sighted though

Friendlypizzaeater · 25/04/2009 21:16

Had mine done about 10 years ago and I've never regretted it. Saved me a fortune as well as I;ve had to buy nothing since, other than my 2 yearly eye test

Best thing for me is being able to see when out swimming or in the shops not just recognising people from there walk

Hello Shopping and Frazzled

I had mine done 4 years ago after the birth of 1st DC because I got fed up with not being able to see in the middle of the night and wasn't awake enough during the day to use contacts. I had pretty crap vision too (+3.5 I think, in both eyes)

I had fancied having them done for ages but was too squeemish about eyes and operations to do much about it before then....

...but it was the best thing I have ever done (apart from marriage, kids etc etc ). My eyes are still 20/20 now, which means I have saved the costs of the procedure in glasses and contacts by now. And when I wake up in the morning I can see the time on the alarm clock ! I feel so much better in myself and love having non prescription sunglasses. I still marvel now, 4 years on, how fab it is to not use glasses.

The procedure itself was OK. It was more painful than I thought it would be TBH (I am a bit of a wimp) but it was over in 10 mins, and I asked someone to hold my hand to calm me down, which really helped me. What was also difficult, and I hadn't thought about it beforehand, was that I couldn't see properly for 12 hours afterwards, so I spent that 12 hours thinking I had paid £3k for blinding myself! But after going to sleep, I woke up and could see !

I hope this helps & good luck with any decision. Let me know if you have any specific qs.

Had mine done just over two years ago. I'd definitely recommend it. It was uncomfortable rather than painful - if you're squeamish you can have Valium beforehand that they give you.

The whole procedure for both eyes took less than 10 minutes and the results were amazing!

Whereabouts are you based? I researched various clinics when I had mine done. One that I visited seemed more interested in how much they could charge me rather than what was best for my eyes, so I gave them a wide berth. In the end I went to Accuvision in Parsons Green, SW London who were amazing. Very professional, no selling tactics and no unnecessary expensive treatment.

I had mine done in Nov 2007 and haven't regretted it for a second. I chose the most expensive option as it was all lasers etc, had them done (45seconds each eye) and was cleared to drive again the next day

no pain during or after the procedure and it cost me £2.5k - the price of it depends on your individual prescription

cannot recomment it enough - no glasses, no squinting, no headaches

had mine done about 7 years ago, took 15 mins, not much discomfort and results are brilliant.

had mine done about 4 yrs ago with optimax. Just out of interest they used to sell their spare capacity on ebay. I cheekily asked them if i could have the ebay price and they agreed, thus saving me over £300.
