Good contraceptive pill? Preferably low hormone?

Have had a high hormone implant for the past three years, and prior to that I had a coil. I have decided that I want to go on to some form of pill, as I am really fed up of having bits of metal in my body, and the high hormone implant has made me way too hormonal for my liking (but I have been too squeamish to have it removed, but the three years are up and it's got to come out).

Are they effective/even possible?

If you mean you have an implanon, its actually very low dose hormone. The average level of progestogen that you are exposed to in the combined and mini pills are higher than your implant.

Very low dose combined pills aren't generally recommended as they are unreliable if you weight >50kg. Triphasic pills (where the dose varies throughout the cycle) deliver a lower overall amount of hormone than the standard-dose combined pills and are as effective.

The mini-pill is progesterone-only, and you may get on with a traditional mini-pill better than cerazette (which is similar hormonally to implanon).

Is it the hormone level that sends you loopy? I have been so cross/easy to anger/teary since I had implanon, and don't want to be like this any more!

It may be the balance of hormone than disagrees with you. Your symptoms are caused by progestogen, and may be dose-dependent. You may fare better with some oestrogen to balance out the progestogen, e.g. combined pill/patch/vaginal ring. assuming you can take oestrogens that is.

I took loestrin 20 for about 3 years and it worked fine for me. Although it is less reliable than higher dose it is more reliable than POP.

I think the issue is that some people are more sensitive than others to the hormones. Therefore most people would find that it wouldn't regulate their cycle very well, although it did mine.

I certainly don't weigh less than 50kg .

Although I am slim (just very tall).
