Mooncup and coil - dodgy combo?

Hi, have been researching mooncups all day and really want to give it a go. I had all but ordered it when I started to research the archived threads and found stories of sucking out coils by mooncups....slight panic starting to form! Any advice out there? I have a copper coil and have had for about 2 years and the old AF is pretty hedious each month- the mooncup sounds ideal apart from the thought of vacuming the coil out

Mooncup and coil not a good combination. Partially pulling a coil out is v painful and potentially really dangerous. Quite a few women have accidentally vacuumed out their coils with a mooncup.

thanks emma, i had a feeling it might be something best avoided but it's a shame because i really wanted to give it a go! At the end of the day, the coil is more useful than the mooncup so i suppose it's back to the drawing board

I have used a mooncup with a coil for over a year with no problems. Check the mooncup website, I think they tell you it's perfectly safe. The trick is to always break the seal when removing, so that you've no risk of sucking it out.
Go for it, I say! I think the tales of pulling it out are probably overexaggerated or due to misuse of mooncup.

damn it, that was the response i wanted to hear now i'm confused! I'm such a worrier....how do you break the seal? Is it easy to get it wrong?

you just have to run your finger round the top and push in the rim a bit to break the seal. Can also be done by gently pinching the whole thing. Takes a bit of getting used to doing it without spillage but honestly I never had a problem.
