Anyone successfully got rid of peri oral dermatitis?

I've got 2 small patches around the top of my mouth (under my nose) and they don't seem to be going away - can anyone recommend anything they have used to successfully treat this. I've been prescribed creams from the doctor and the next course of action is a 6-12 week course of antibiotics, which I would rather avoid if at all possible. TIA

Only just come across this after being diagnosed with perioral dermatitis.. I've battle skin issues like eczema all my life but at 50 and after a very sudden bereavement my immune system went into shutdown and my face became a big issue so sore at times it bled .. doctors prescribed various antibiotics and strengths and creams all which were short fixes. I finally went to see a dermatologist who said it was perioral dermatitis... I'm now on an eight week course of lymecycline and to stop any topical creams prescribed as these would aggregate it.

It got worse to the point I had had enough before it got better. As I had to go cold turkey as they say after using steroid creams for years. I am now week three and there is a definite improvement. I was also advice to use an antibacterial soap which seems to have helped

I do feel my skin is drier so a good moisturiser is important I have tried most .. and seem to be ok with Roche Posay from boots and Estée Lauder do a sensitive cream that you need to ask for as for some strange reason they don't have it on show !!!!

Only time will tell if it works. I have kept a photo record of at its worst and looking back I don't know how I have coped. All kicked off by a shock bereavement .... mad huh

Good luck anyone with this problem .. it's been so disheartening

Don't wait two years like I did ... see a dermatologist

I can't stop raving about proskin excema by mama nature. Two and a half weeks after using it you would never know I had ever had perioralis dermatitits. It was red all around my mouth and lumpy and after my first application it looked redder but it soon calmed down and I am oh so happy now. My friends can't believe it and none of them have heard of mama nature. Neither had I.

I developed quite bad perioral dermatitis, starting at about three months pregnant. Initially I had acne in my chin, which progressed to PO dermatitis, I do not know if it was a natural progression or caused by the products I was using on the acne. I've had it before but usually I would use tetracycline for a couple of weeks as soon as it flared and it would nip it in the bud, but this is not suitable for use during pregnancy. I tried so many different non medicated creams and washes but it just kept on getting worse. I eventually caved and got a prescription for zineryt topical treatment, it contains erythromycin which is an antibiotic and gas topical anti inflammatory properties and it's been amazing!! Granted my skin did feel a bit tight and dry when I started using it but that's gone now and the bumps and small fluid filled vesicles have totally cleared. The skin is still a bit red but so much better than before, and this is in the space of two weeks, treating a condition that had been developing over 4 or 5 months. Totally suitable for pregnancy and has made me feel so much better in myself, I was starting to dread having my picture taken post birth because of my big red fksky bumpy chin, but not anymore!! So if anyone is struggling with this try it, I was amazed at the difference even in the first week.

Hi I’ve suffered from perioral dermatitis for several years and creams that initially appeared to work stopped working after a month or so and the rash returned. I was advised to try fluoride free toothpaste but one that didn’t contain other chemicals and foaming agents. I bought Aloe Dent sensitive from Holland and Barratt and within a week my rash disappeared and hasn’t returned so much so that I have been able to use face cream and foundation on my chin for the first time in years. Just to test it I started to use ‘normal’ toothpaste again and the rash started to return. This may not work for everyone but it’s certainly worth a try as fluoride has been linked as a cause of perioral dermatitis on several sites I’ve since researched.

Forgot to add I have been rash free now for 6 months

Finally I am proud to say I have finally got rid of this hellish rash! Probiotics - strong ones from Holland and Barrett. I took one tablet in the morning, followed by a yukult drink and activia yoghurt for breakfast and after 3 days it's almost disappeared. Probiotics is the answer not creams or lotions.

Hoping some off you are still present in the forum. I have been diagnosed with perioral dermatitis from over use of steroid creams for seborrhoea dermatitis. I have been given antibiotics to help but I’m just wondering if anyone used moisturiser and serums after cleansing but avoiding the area?

Apart from the area effected (nasal folds and sides of chin) the rest of my face has good skin and I don’t want to loose this by not using my normal skin routine. But I do really want this cleared so I think I know my answer there! My skin is so tight around the area from not moisturising, should I just bare with it and my skin get used to the lack of moisture? Any first hand tips would be much appreciated
