How was it?

Was it successful and why did you have it?

TIA

My sister had it 4 years ago for fibroids that caused heavy bleeding.

She tried the Mirena and it was a disaster.

4 years on she's still doing great!

Light periods is all.

She had hers under local anaesthetic and said it was fast and a piece of cake compared to her crash csection and VBAC.

I had mine done nearly a year ago.
Op was done under general anaesthetic.

I had heavy periods and stayed at home on days 2&3 as would flood out, also was anemic.

Op has changed my life, more energy, very light period (have given away the huge night time towels). Wish I had known about it earlier.

I have. Mine was called Thermal Ablation where heated saline is used to destroy the lining of the uterus (sounds ghastly doesn't it?!)

I had it done 2 years ago. To begin with not much difference. Then after a month or two periods became much lighter and easier to manage.

Most of last year not much in the way of periods at all (hooray), then beginning of this year awful heavy bleeding.

Having said that, I really do think it made a big difference all told though. I'm peri menopausal apparantly now, so erratic periods are down to that. But they always were very heavy and the ablation helped a lot.

The op was quick and no unpleasant after effects. I had a general anaesthetic.

Only for those who do not wish to have more babies though as I understand it.

Had mine done 3 years ago under a local

Before it was just like a chain saw massacre had occurred each month when I had my period I couldn't go out and had to take loads of medication to bring the bleeding under control.

Now I'm like a new woman. Hurrah! I get a tiny bleed once a month which doesn't even merit a mini tampon

AnyFucker · 20/04/2009 21:34

yes, I have chain saw massacres too

ruined mattresses, carpets, clothes, you name it , am woken in awful pain for 2 nights in every month and the whole thing is getting unmanageable

I can't take the usual medications as am allergic to non-steroidal anti-inflammatories

don't want more babies, and have no need for contraception, so this seems the best option

I hate taking time off work though, so need to know there is a good chance it will be helpful

My sis says it was well worth it. She only took one afternoon off work (Friday afternoon) - she's a teacher.

She was back at it on Monday.

It big time sorted her problems.
