Hi,
I am scared out of my mind. I got the letter yesterday so I have to wait until tomorrow before I can phone for the colposcopy appointment. Has anyone else been through this? How quickly does the colposcopy appointment come through?

Try not to worry, the symptoms you've had could be due to lots of things. The main thing is you'll be seeing someone tomorrow to get yourself checked out. It would be a good idea to mention the problems you've described, as the colposcopy staff often deal with/can refer on for menstrual disorders.
Hope your appointment goes ok,

Hi about 5 years ago i had treatment for abnormal cells, i had the lazor treatment which had to be reapeated because the first time didnt get rid of the abnormal cells. I got the all clear and have just had my 3 year smear 2 weeks ago, i have been told that the results could take up to 12 weeks to come through. My partner and i are trying for a baby and im not sure if we should stop trying and wait for the results to come back first. Everything seems normal, i dont have any pain or bleeding inbetween periods.

Hi lou2707,
I think your best bet is to talk to the GP really.
Hopefully your Pap test will be back a bit soon as many labs are beginning to catch up a bit now. So if the GP does advise you to wait it may not be too long.

New to this so please bear with me!

I had my letter from hospital on thursday informing me that my smear had come back CIN3. when i called t make appt the lady i spoke to stressed to me that i needed to attend the clinic almost immediately and booked my appt for monday. i have had cin 1 twice before and was treated with relative ease.

However, last october i started pouring with blood, constantly and this has gone on for months, have had scans, seen consultant, also i have a had alot of pain during and after sex and when using tampons! i have made many appts for a smear ( which was due 12 monthly last dec) but was always told it could not be performed while bleeding so was only done at end of april. i am not bleeding constantly now, but only due to drug intervention. Then along comes this smear result!

I am worried sick, have read that only 1 in 200 women have CIN 3 and 1 in a 1000 cervical cancer! am i wrong in calculating that my chances are 1 in 5! suddenly not so good! due to all these problems i am seriously wondering as im already a mum of 3 whether i should be requsting they consider a hysterectomy!

cheshire, sympathies! i've had CINII and had LEEP to get rid of it.

i think it's best to go along to colpo clinic and see how it goes. they'll treat right there if they feel it's necessary and of course biopsy the tissue and send it to lab and determine exactly what is going on.

they will do this very quickly in cases like yours.

keep us posted.

cheshirelady30 - much of the time symptoms such as the ones you've been experiencing are not related to the cervix and that's why they've been concentrating on other investigations, which from what you've said in your post the medication has helped with.
Your recent Pap test result is probably unrelated to the preceding symptoms - and as you've had scans as part of those investigations, if there was anything more untoward, it would have likely been picked up.
As expat says see what the colposcopy staff think once they've had a look. It could be (bearing in mind your other problem) that a hysterectomy would be one answer, but that is a big step to take.
You could also ask about having an HPV test to find out if you have HPV and which types. Some areas are taking part in a trial to use HPV testing after treatment with LLETZ. If the HPV has gone then you are much less likely to get a recurrence.
As far as the stats about 1 in 200 women having CIN3 and 1 in a 1000 cervical cancer -I'm interested to know where you read that.
There were about 1000 cervical cancers diagnosed last year and 3.6 million tests were screened for 3.4 million women. That is around 1 in 3500.
Approx 2% of all tests show high grade dyskaryosis which will equate to CIN2 or CIN3 on histology, so is in line with your figures. These are all very treatable, most people will have one treatment then be fine.

HTH and that your appointment goes ok
