i have 2 ds's and do NOT want anymore. DH is in middle of referral for the snip. I cant have the combined pill due to migraine. Am on POP but have a nightmare with my skin is soooo spotty on it it gets me down plus no libido at all. Have been to see family planning and the best option for me is the copper coil due to it being non hormonal.

Am petrified of having it put in as i had my smear just before i got pg with ds2 (16 months ago ish) and it was so painful that the gp sent me for internal scan in case there was a problem. So theres that and also i havent really heard any positives about the copper coil, just the mirena. So are there any positives with it?? Other than not remebering to take a pill? My periods are normally irregular so that worries me too

It is simple and for the majority relatively pain free.
I had copper coils fitted in 1985 1990 and 1996. Only on the first occasion did I feel a little woozy afterwards but was fine after a cuppa. I never had any pain.

I had one for 5 years, just had it taken out because it came to the end of its life and currently on the pill for other reasons, but will get another coil put in when I can stop that.
Don't remember it being painful being put in, bit undignified and pokey, but nothing more really.
They snipped the strings too short so I had to have a local to have it taken out, but no problem other than the inconvenience of having to go to the hospital (and I suppose once in 5 yrs is not so bad).
Didn't have noticeably heavy or irregular periods.
According to my doctor in Spain practically all women there use the copper coil if they want long term contraception, but that may have just been her being persuasive!
