Just burst a Bartholin's Cyst - Have I done a bad thing??

Apologies in advance if the detail offends anyone! DIY fanjo 'surgery' under discussion!

OK, so I've had a Bartholin'c Cyst for well over a year. It's been about the size of a very large marble but hasn't caused any pain or discomfort. The GP said just to ignore it but I didn't want a lumpy lopsided fanjo thank you very much.

Anyway, this evening I just decided that I'd had enough of it - wine may have played a part - and having read various articles on the web about surgery, draining and abcesses I took the plunge and popped the damn thing. I used a sterilised needle, made a little hole and squeezed and squeezed. Lots and lots of gunk came out, not pus or blood, looked more like erm old secretions, very sticky and slimy yuk, and the lump has now gone completely. I've washed and cleaned the area with anti-septic but do I need to do anything else? Have I done a bad, bad thing????

I thought it was kangaroos.

pellmell · 05/06/2009 23:37

Really!

ilovemydogandmrobama · 05/06/2009 23:39

That's it! Kangaroos!

pellmell · 05/06/2009 23:41

was struggling to remove the mental image of the produce of this vile alien on your fanjo....just watched a clip of Graham Norton on tv so turned it off. Very apt

MrsMattie · 06/06/2009 00:17

It's because it is a pouch of fluid. That's why they use kangaroo terminology. It's no laughing matter, trust me!

whomovedmychocolate · 06/06/2009 20:19

Now I'm confused? Did a koala bear crawl out of Mrs Mattie's ladygarden?

Hmm. Jessica is a new poster and has posted the same thing now twice. One of which is to resurrect an old thread

Advertising, I think.

Just wanted to say thank you to bellawella, i have had a Bartholin'c Cyst for over 6 years, Dr told me to leave it as it was no bigger than a pea and apart from the fact it wasn't pretty it caused me no problems, esp as the the Dr said it would take an operation to remove it, so i left it alone. That was till last night, i noticed it had grown and been a bit sore so after wine i followed bellawellas advise and popped the beggar, i wish i had done it years ago! no pain and looks like was never there. Thanks for all the comments that i read to spur me on!! i would highly recommend popping! xx

My daughter has a cyst right on the side so she is struggling to walks and hasn't been to school since Monday we have taken her to the doctors but she was put on flucloxacillin but that didn't work so now she is on chrymacin a stronger antibiotic but it's getting bigger everyday and becoming hard she said is it ok to pop it or not or do I go to doctors and wait and see if she has to have an operation

Selfavnew · 09/10/2017 07:19

I've had these nasty little things a handful of times. Finally found a remedy,. Mix coconut oil and turmeric to form paste, or on gauze and apply to nasty little bigger. It will come to a head, make another late with salt and baking powder (or squeeze away if you prefer. Try and get everything out. Keep the area very clean and it should be all healed in a few days.

Marriedandfrustrated99999 · 21/06/2018 00:21

Ok will I legit just did this .. I'm not gonna get sick or anything am I? Like i poked it with a sterilized needle but Jen if anything came out cause im fat.. and cant see

Walkingthroughawall · 21/06/2018 09:10

As you haven't removed the cyst wall it will most likely just recollect.

Keep a really close eye on it as it's quite likely to get infected even with your precautions (it's not an easy place to keep sterile!).

Jack3218 · 11/10/2018 02:58

Even when the cyst is a little painful you still go ahead and pop it ??

dolysasa · 14/03/2020 06:22

Do u poke it with the needle from inside the v or how? I had to ask my pcp to pop it for me from the inside the labia. I want to know how to self operate it. I had it twice! So painful.

MissDiagnosis · 15/01/2021 00:52

Hi - I know this was a while ago but I’m in your situation and really want to do the same. Did you suffer any ill effects? Did the lump go straight away? (Sorry to question you LOL) Smile
