Hi.

I was up to a bottle of wine every night, plus the odd vodka on top at weekends.

I am now down to 2 bottles a week (Friday and Saturday evenings).

I won't say it was easy, but I found the best way is to substitute something else - I am working my way through the 'posh' cordial type drinks at the moment.

Then there is also doing lots of teeth cleaning to put you off.

Then the final act of desperation - go to bed early with a sleeping tablet.

Good luck.

I did that, I was drinking a bottle a night for 6 nights with 1 night off.

I ballooned, I have since cut down but it's down to working 3 evenings a week and needing to stop. Money was beginning to get very tight as well and at £6-7 a bottle everynight it was just geting too much.

Plus I was getting a ain in my kidneys, unrealated, maybe, maybe not but It made me scare enough to stop.

There is no magic way you are just going to have to stop and just only drink at weekends. Friday and saturday night only and make it a treat. If needs must only one day in the week.

But in all honesty if needs must then theres a problem.

I don't know about your circumstnaces but could you not take yourself off out for a walk in the evenings when you fancy a drink? or clean or declutter a room. Do something to take your mind off it.

this might help.
£1872. that's what you'd save if you didnt drink. (a year)

or £936 if you had 3 bottles a week. (a year).

do you think you have a problem or is it under control?

OH can I add, I am still eating exactly the same but since I cut down the weight is coming off 2lb a week. It must be cutting down on the drink.

I'll be 3 stones lighter by Mid august

BUT I have to stop the drinking..I have to stop on monday if I want to start the drinking..I have a problem and it's out of control !

Can I ask a stupid question, those of you who drink so much (I am not judgemental!) -- I just don't know how you do it. I drink one glass and I'm quite dizzy, I would feel quite awful if I drank a whole bottle. Do you just have a lot less sensitivity to alcohol, does it take you a whole bottle to feel dizzy like one glass makes me feel? How rough do you feel the next day? After a whole bottle, the next day I would be almost completely nonfunctional and would probably throw up anyway before dawn.

I'm fine I drink a bottle and feel as though I could drive a car (I have NEVER done this) I feel no different to having not drunk it, just a lot mellower and relaxed. I love the tatse too. No squash gives me the same feeling

I wake up fine too. I don't wake up feeling ill or anything.

If I drink at lunchtime with a meal I do feel very tired and need to sleep.

I think over the years where the intake has become a gradual increase it takes alot for me to get drunk. 2 bottles would have me slurring a little

It sounds like you've formed a habit that you're just struggling to break. My DH and I sometimes go through this after Xmas and New Year, we go cold turkey for the whole of January and generally stay off any booze other than going out for meals until well after Easter. We basically stop buying wine, sounds crazy but if it's not in the house you won't drink it. Also we do, as others have said, try to distract ourselves. Perhaps going for a run or taking up something really granny-fied like cross stitch will keep you busy (2 extremes there), even going for a walk.

Also drink loads of water it will help to keep your hands busy and agree that posh cordials are good too.

A couple of years ago after a really heavy Xmas while staying with friends, during my booze detox I lost a stone in 6 weeks.

Good luck, you can do it!

I have got to do it...going cold turquey..but man it's hard but I cant feel better if I keep drinking..thank you for sharing your experiences and giving tips !

lljk - I was like you but I have built a strenght/an habit..that's the reason I can drink in the evening without suffering too much in the morning..When I was pregnant, I was not drinking at all..but afterwards man I got mad..after xmas, I was supposed to stop but it was too hard/no willpower..etc..man I'm weak and I'm not proud of it...

lljkk - I feel a bit woozy after 2 glasses, but then I don't get any worse... there is no difference between 2 glasses and the whole bottle.

As for feeling dreadful in the mornings - I feel a bit fuzzy headed some mornings, but I am 'normal' by 10am at the latest.
