Dizzy spell/blurred vision,any ideas?

I've had a dreadful cough for about a week but apart from that, have felt fine.
We to Sainsburys this morning and while I was there,I felt very dizzy and couldn't see properly-everything was blurred.Sat down for about 20 mins and in the end rang dh to collect me as I couldn't drive. Also had a headache,so when we got home I took some paracetemol and went to bed for a few hours.Still feel a light lightheaded but nowhere as bad as I was earlier.
Have made a doctors appointment for Friday, but wondered if anyone had ideas, please?
Thanks

Sounds like a migrane. Not nice

Are you feeling better now?

akhems · 15/04/2009 22:13

I've been having similar recently, saw my gp today and he said it could be hypoglycaemia and gave me one of those machines diabetic people have to check their blood sugar levels, so far mine is coming in at 5.5-5.8 :/

I'm supposed to monitor and note it for a couple of weeks and then go back and see what to do next.

Bubbaloo · 15/04/2009 22:44

Thanks-not too sure if it's a migrane though,as although I had a headache afterwards,it wasn't a bad headache and it was mainly at the back of the head.
Still don't feel right, but much better than I was earlier on.
Akhems-how long did you have the dizzy spells for?

I also have quarterly b12 jabs for pernicious anaemia and having my next one on Monday,so it may be something to do with that, perhaps.

Was wandering in to say 'could you be anaemic' ... it seems you are already dealing with that one - but is it worth getting your FBC done as soon as poss - like tomorrow, rather than waiting for that appointment?

Bubbaloo · 15/04/2009 22:56

Oh dear, was hoping I wouldn't be sent for a blood test, but guess it's the only way of knowing what's going on,for sure.
Earliest appointment for the doctor's was Friday which should be fine.I don't need to go out the rest of the week as have lots of family over at the weekend, for ds2's birthday.

Do you ever get palpitations before the dizziness?

Bubbaloo · 15/04/2009 23:01

No,didn't get any palpitations but had to abandon the shopping trolley to rush to the toilet.

I find chocolate fixes it

Honestly, real live dark chocolate. Tragic y'know, I'm forcing myself to eat chocolate right now you see.

Whaddya mean you don't feel sorry for me

Seriously though, it really would be worth a simple blood test, presumably you already know how shit you feel when anaemia is in full swing - and how much better you feel when you've got iron and B12 in you Well worth the inconvenience, imho. And never mind putting it off either, it doesn't take long and I'm sure you'd enjoy your ds's birthday much more if you felt well.

janeite · 15/04/2009 23:08

I've had this twice and both times have been flat out in bed for several days afterwards. I have taken them to be some kind of flu or migraine or a combination but if it happens again I will go to the doctors I think. Would be interested to hear how you get on on Friday and hope you feel better soon.

Bubbaloo · 15/04/2009 23:18

Thanks-I've just eaten a whole Easter egg(inc the buttons inside!)which certainly cheered me up.Was milk chocolate though.
Think I'll phone in the morning and see if I can bring my b12 jab forward to tomorrow as I normally perk up after I've had that and I'll see the doctor on Friday.

Erm...I thought chocolate was for dementor attacks?

gigglewitch · 15/04/2009 23:20

good plan
Just make sure you do

Sibh · 15/04/2009 23:20

I had this recently with numbness on my left side, tingling and various other odd things. After much fuss from my very kind GP and a neurologist, it turned out to be migraines with iron and B12 deficiency. A surprise because I wouldn't have said it was a headachy thing exactly.

Apparently migraines are masters of disguise . Worth checking things out obviously, but avoid google until that's finished with perhaps.

gigglewitch · 15/04/2009 23:21

oi, are you sayin I'm demented

alert - you will soon find out if it's migraine ... chocolate is a huge trigger, isn't it?

Bubbaloo · 15/04/2009 23:21

Thanks-will report back Friday afternoon.

akhems · 16/04/2009 06:52

hi bubbaloo.. it lasts for about 10 mins or so each time in my case, but I feel rough for a good bit longer afterwards and need a bit of a lie down.

Bubbaloo · 16/04/2009 11:36

Well,I've changed my jab appointment and having that this afternoon,so hopefully I should feel a little better by this evening.

OP posts:
gigglewitch · 17/04/2009 23:20

so how's things now?

Bubbaloo · 18/04/2009 11:27

Sorry,I've been busy with ds2's birthday yesterday.
I had my jab on Thursday and went to the doctor yesterday. He checked me over and apart from a chest infection,he couldn't find anything else wrong with me.He's given me Amoxycillin and said it IS possibly that the chest infection has caused the dizziness and blurred vision, although I'm not too convinced.
He also gave me a blood test form to basically test everything from Diabetes to FBC,so will go there at some point in the week.
Don't feel alot different tbh-was doing some gardening earlier and had to come in as I felt dizzy again.Guess it'll take a couple of days before the antibiotics kick in.
