Can anyone explain the NHS dentist price bands?

Just got back from a dentist appt with DH. He is registered there as a NHS patient but has been quote £1,000 for treatment.

He hasn't been for a very long time so I guess we should have expected a fair amount of work, but I thought they had to stick to the price banding or am I missing something?

I have to go myself tomorrow and I am wondering if I am going to be hit with a huge bill too!

I think you can call NHS direct about dentistry too - they should be able to tell you of an NHS dentist in your area taking on patients too if you decide your dentist is dodgy and need a second opinion.

Worth it - I am private and paid £87 for a check-up, hygienist appointment and two x-rays last week

I am having a crown done at the moment the cost is £200 national health, although the cost is £400 private.

Because the tooth to be crowned is at the front of the mouth it will be a white crown no matter how I get it done, although the national health white crown is different from a private crown, a national heath crown is made from Porcelain-fused-to-metal, this can leave a small visible line of metal around the gum line, private crowns are mostly made from All-ceramic or all-porcelain, if you have a metal allergy these will be more suitable.

Maybe its because you havent been for so long, my dentist takes you off there list if you miss more than 2 appoinments, and you have to have regular check ups to stay as NHS at mine.
