My dentist phoned today to say he has left a bit of metal in my root canal

and I have to go to a special dentist to have it removed properly, and then back to him to have it filled again.

I am not amused. This root canal work is costing me £550. I will now have to drive an hour to a dentist (leaving my fully bf baby with my dh), go through another nasty session with my head hanging upside down and some horrid hairy hand shoved in my gob, and then do it all again with my original dentist

Dh thinks I should get some money taken off. Do you agree? Or is it just one of those things?

Sue your dentist I'd say. Sounds like he's totally incompetent. Seriously, I would be appalled if it was me. I don't think you should pay after such a botch tbh. Seek legal advice.

candyfluff · 14/04/2009 20:33

sounds like a nightmare
hope you will be ok

brimfull · 14/04/2009 20:44

nickytwotimes · 14/04/2009 20:46

It is NOT one of those things.
You should not have to part with a penny.
I would be apoplectic.
Everyone makes mistakes, but jeezo!

SparkyFartDust · 14/04/2009 20:48

I feel for you, this sounds stressful.

I don't think you should have to pay for any of the work.

Poor you.

blametheparents · 14/04/2009 20:57

I don't think you should have to pay for ANY of the work either, bloody cheek!

nickschick · 14/04/2009 21:01

How did he know??
What is the metal? his wedding ring???

definitely complain -poor you

brimfull · 14/04/2009 21:04

the metal will be the bit he cleaned the roots out with I supppose? like little tiny springs

HumphreyCobbler · 14/04/2009 21:14

Thanks for the responses everyone and the link ggirl. Will check it out now.

Your reaction is the same as my dh's. I am rather a non-confrontational type and just sort of gulped when he said it and replied "oh, ok then"

He said he was going to get the x ray checked out as he thought he had hit an obstruction but I didn't really take in that he thought something had broken off. Having my head upside down for an hour had disorientated me slightly.

My mum has had this happen, though it was a piece of root left. After a year of feeling sjite she went to a new dentist who found the (then unknown) remaining piece and took it out.

She wrote to original dentist and got a full refund immediately!
