Currently on day 7, using lozenges, after the most horrendous cough and cold which lasted for 16 days and got me making ''deals with god'' in the long, lonely wee hours, after coughing myself awake

Anyone else recently given up and wish to join me for nagging support etc?

im doing like you were doing with the coughing myself awake

southeastastra · 28/04/2009 19:32

mollyroger · 28/04/2009 19:52

(ouf at patches)

I am still on 3 lozenges a day, though I often forget to take one, which is good i suppose.

harley, use feeling crap as a head start - if you can keep off for 3 days, the nicotene will be out of your system!

well, last one i had was sunday evening, so im 2 days down already
all i can do is give it another go

LemonTea · 28/04/2009 20:15

I'll probably get yelled at for this - but the method worked for me...

I stopped using patches, but didn't follow the step down procedure as on the packet.

I stayed on the higher strength ones for about 12 weeks in total, until I felt I had broken the back of the habit itself.
I stayed on the next strength for about 4 weeks, then started cutting them up into smaller and smaller pieces. I felt I wasn't quite ready to go without patches for another 3/4 weeks, but the size I had made them was tiny - so all completely in my head.

Anyway I've been stopped now for 3 months, and wouldn't have one even if a packet was sat next to me and I NEVER thought I'd be able to say that.

southeastastra · 28/04/2009 20:24

it worked though lemontea! i am sort of worried about the lower dosage patch but be glad to get onto smaller ones.

these are huge and with summer coming not a good look

mollyroger · 28/04/2009 20:36

I heard about a bloke recently whose (non-smoking) wife complained of dizziness, agitation, palpitations etc. Took herself off to the GP, before discovering a nicotene patch stuck on her arse - had come off her DH in the night and attatched itself to her

mine always go walkabout at night.

harleyd · 29/04/2009 20:31

well theres my first 3 days done...am i officially nicotine-free?

BlaDeBla · 29/04/2009 20:35

Well done Southeast! You are doing fantastically well. I've been stopping and starting and stopping and starting and getting into such a muddle. I'm a non-smoking smoker, or a smoking non-smoker, like a dry drunk or a drunk drunk without the alcohol. It's a mess. I've got the patches too and I'd like to stop for good again. I stopped for 5 years, then it has crept up a bit over the past year, but still I smoke only rarely. Bugger bugger bugger.

mollyroger · 02/05/2009 11:26

oh bladedbla, how depressing to start again after 5 years off

Mamanged a wild party night in pub last night, and was curiously untroubled by not smoking, even though I am quite shy and all my friends went outside to smoke for hours. I made some new friends, and love not stinking of smoke this morning.
I do have to be careful not to drink too much instead though.

im still off them, but beginning to crave now
think i must be starting to feel better

mollyroger · 02/05/2009 11:28

Harley - how's it going with you, mate?

I rang the NHS quit line to see about local groups but the idea seems somehow depressing to me. For some reason I really don't feel tempted to smoke but my complacency is worrying me IYKWIM

i cant imagine dealing with being out for a nite yet and not smoking...good job ive no big nites out planned yet
