chickenpox and piriton

DD2 has chickenpox, she's not so sick, but is very irritable and going crazy with itch.
Sleep, poor at the best of times, is 20 mins at a time. Is it worth going to the GP for Piriton? She's only 13 months, can you use Piriton at 13 months?

Sorry I'm not sure. You can get it over the counter though so the pharmacist can advise you.

I used it with dd who had awful chicken pox at 12 months. It works.

But BE WARNED - it makes them terribly constipated because it takes all the water out of the gut.

dd ended up with a huge hard dry poo and an anal fissure and 2 years of problems.

I could easily have prevented it by giving her lactulose while she was on the piriton, but I didn't know.

Blimey I've never heard of that.

My ds1 only had 2 doses a day and that kept him comfortable. He hated the tase though so he had half a syringe of piriton combined with half a syringe of calpol!

Thanx.
Never mind poor DD2, but we are going crazy with lack of sleep, (an ongoin issue anyway, so weve no reserves for extra lack of sleep). And I get soo cranky. So DH and I are, well let's say, not pleasant to each other.
