Nuts and Boils

I have an awful feeling that nuts give me boils.

I like nuts and have a sneaking suspicion that they are too 'heavy' for me and I end up, a few days later, getting a boil. Does anyone else suffer from this? I'm not allergic as such, but a friend told me she's heard of this...

I've got one at the moment and it's killing me. I know you'll say, 'just cut the nuts out of your diet' but just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Umm no. Boils are not caused by food allergies. Boils are a skin infection when your immune system is compromised. The fact that you eat nuts a few days before is one of those funny coincidences. See www.skinhelp.co.uk/Boils.html for descriptions of different types and causes of boils.

There is a school of thought which says that allegies are caused by an autoimmune overreaction to an allergen - which would fit. But if that was the case, your immune system would be too busy dealing with the nuts to worry about reacting to staph bacteria because boils are actually a protective measure to sort out an infection problem.

When you say they are too 'heavy' for you, what do you mean?

Are you sure it's not you that's nuts?

Just read yr artlicle, thanks. Mine is in the groin area and figures as I ride a bike a lot and the chaffing action as I cycle must be the cause.

What can I do? I have to ride my bike as I work as a carer going some days on cycles of up to 10 miles around and about. ugh....

How do professional cyclists get on I wonder,,

Hmm it may not be boils in that case. These is something called Hidradenitis suppurativa where your sweat glands keep swelling up, expelling pus often and generally being bloody sore.

I do know a few pro cyclists who've had this problem when they are run down. Do you wear breathable fabrics when you cycle and shower when you get to work?
