DS has a red eyeball and his eye is puffy, but he says it doesnt hurt and there is no stickyness or weeping. Only on one eye.

is this conjunctivitis do you think? should i take him to the doctor?

Thanks.

It could be viral conjunctivitis, see if you can Google some images. Nothing you can do about it if it is viral cj, just be careful with hygiene so it doesn't spread to other people.

If it starts to hurt or weep I'd get him seen.

you should be able to get some advice from a chemist if you have one open

clayre · 13/04/2009 08:46

if you think its conjunctivitis take him to the chemist, they can check and prescribe the same eye drops the dr gives

thanks for your reply. googled it, i dont think it is that as he says its not sore at all. he did say he bumped it so i wonder if he scratched it somehow?

wonder if i need to keep him away from nursery?

send him to nursery
if it develpos into anything else they can always ring you

if it's following an injury, he should have it looked at by a doctor. no eye pain is good sign though.

if you suspect an allergy or infection, a pharmacist can assess him under the minor ailments scheme and prescribe medication without having to go through GP.

usually nurseries say they need to stay off for 2 days from when they start the drops, when they stop being infectious - you might check the policy, esp. as you're so busy

I would say ring the nursery and ask if he can go in. At the nursery where I work, children can go in 24 hrs after starting treatment. It's worth checking seeing as you are so busy with your assignments.

thanks everyone. its looking a lot better and rang the nursery this morning. they said he should be fine to take in tomorrow... hurrah !

you know... all those things you say you would never do before you were a parent... well, DS upstairs eating a packet of haribos and its not even 10 o'clock. The things you do to get eye drops in. bribery? me?!
