Do I take DD to the doctor tomorow or not?

Really don't want her to take a course of antiBs if she doesn't genuinely need them, but...
She is 3.5 yo. Last summer she had (first ever) a UTI which took weeks to clear.

She has some infection type thing, now. Last few days tending to sleep a lot, come & go bad fever, complaining when she goes to the loo... but she's a whingy child, anyway, not sure if she's complaining because she doesn't like how she's sitting on the loo or because she got a bit chapped down below so it hurts when we wipe her clean (usually has wet knickers on, because she fights going to the loo).

She had high fever 2 hours ago, gave her some Nurofen, she's bright now. She seems better the more often we take her to the loo, but she has had a few spells of needing to go every 10 minutes or so.

When she had the UTI before she woke up in middle of night to go to loo & screamed in pain about it, she's sleeping thru fine in last 2 days, wetting her nappy comfortably in her sleep. On that basis I think it's not a UTI and we can just monitor... or should I be more cautious?

Sorry for the essay!!

Oh no. I'm sorry you didn't get much of an answer. The GP doesn't sound particularly helpful. I hope dd gets better before Friday and that you won't need to go through all that again. xx

any improvement Zebra?

Thanks (so much) for asking -- we bottled out. She looked so haggard, I couldn't take it. Started the antiB after all. She hates the taste but is taking it, and most importantly, she has improved a lot. So much so that I think they are doing her good/she "needed" them. I do believe that taking antiBs is harmful if you don't need them, but I decided the risk if she needed them & we didn't give was greater than the risk of taking antiBs when she didn't need them.

Sorry that's incoherent... and I haven't even had more than a sip of wine this evening

It's a huge antiB bottle, finishing the course will take ages, blech.

Only just caught up with this Zedbra. You are defo doing the right thing. A room temperature shouldn't make such a big increase in DD's temperature, however hot. Also the fact that it had dropped again by the time she got home means little. If you look at the temperature chart of a patient with infection you will typically see that they may not have a temperature all the time, rather that it goes up and down in 'spikes' hence the frase 'spiking' a temp. Hope she is feeling much better soon.
