my ds is ten weeks old, and has over the last three weeks or so, developed really dry skin, all over especially on his arms and legs, it looks like chicken skin and is really rough and bobbly, if that makes sense. i got some E45 Junior cream which has really helped on his face, but his body is still rough as old boots! i haven't changed detergent or anything, so i'm stumped. Tried a few creams to no avail

massage him with vegetable oil (not extra virgin or virgin oil or groundnut oil though)

its a lovely thing to do and helps a lot

its fairly normal for young babies to have dry skin for some reason (personally I wouldn't use E45 nor would I use soap in the bath, just water and maybe aqueous cream)

i stopped using baby bath, and got some "simple" moisturising bath. cool, i'll try the veg oil, and its great to know that its normal. poor little thing, he's like a brillo pad!!

don't think you should put anythign in the bath tbh - any product can dry a baby's skin, water is fine at the is age, they don't really get that dirty

okey dokes, i'll stop using anything, see what happens

It may be infantile eczema. I would avoid bath products unless is something prescribed by the GP as they tend to make the condition worse. You mentioned about trying different creams, have you tried Aveeno?

Henda · 24/04/2005 16:52

no?? never heard of it. where'd you get it from?

try porridge oats wrapped up in muslin held under taps for water to run through..makes the water soooo soft and milky and if you squeeze out the milky fluid and use it as soap.it works wonders and i`ve recommended it to others but make sure its just plain porridge oats

Henda · 24/04/2005 17:01

wow, i'll try that too!!
