Help. What constitutes a heavy period? Way TMI - sorry.

Is a normal heavy period one where you leak through all 6 super plus tampons and matching whopper Always night maxi pads you've used between 7 and 11 this morning?

I've never had one like this and am worried there is more to it. It's very red and very clotty .

Can anyone reassure me?

I had that last september for the whole month and it ended up being combination of the pill injection( and I think because I'm overweight). Stopped the injection adn took tablets from the dr to stop the bleeding, only thing is now I haven't had a period since then.

Go to the doctor and get it stopped. I couldn't leave the house as it came through my trousers to

good luck

Thats not normal - you need to see someone about it.

There isn't a possibility that you could have been pg, and this is a miscarriage is there ?

beanieb · 09/04/2009 11:51

yes, that sounds heavy to me. The clotting happens because the blood flow is so fast your body runs out of the anti-clotting agent so I am told.

I think try to get an appointment at the doctors.

I had this and just thought well i got to be 31 and had had periods for 16 years with little problem so this is maybe my body just having a good clear out........ til I went to the loo in asda and realised it was far more than a heavy period .

Go to the doctor,please.

nickschick · 09/04/2009 11:54

sorry if i sounded a bit attention seeking there - just go to the dr and be sure.

daisydotandgertie · 09/04/2009 12:21

Don't worry nick - it definitely didn't come across as attention seeking. Poor you having such a problem in the loo at Asda - at least I'm at home! I assume that yours was a miscarriage?

We have been TTC and I did think I might be pg this month as my temps have been up and I thought I had a couple of v,v feint BFPs on pg tests. But I didn't think that what must have been a chemical pregnancy would have such a result.

All I know it it cramping like mad (I don't remember ever having period pains before - I'm 40 so maybe this is my comeuppance!) and that I am sooo hormonal.

I think I might ring the doc on the strength of your advice - I didn't want to see him and have him tell me that what I thought was awful was in fact quite normal and I was making a gigantic fuss.

I'm on bumper size set no 8 now. It's going to involve a trip to the chemist for my DH I think.

Thanks ladies.

I wanted to add a real thank you.

I phoned NHS direct who told me to contact my GP or local A&E as a matter of urgency.

I rang my GP and the receptionist was fabulous. We live in a very rural area and on a Thursday all the GPs leave the surgery and visit local village halls for an informal surgery.

She rang ahead to make sure the doctor waited and I had a very surreal trip to a kitchen in a village hall I've never been to before to see a very kind doc who confirmed that I am having a very early miscarriage.

Of course there's nothing much that can be done, but let it run its course, drink plenty and take some care. He has warned me that even with this level of bleeding some ladies remain pg and that I should pay attention to my next period just in case.

I doubt there's any need.
