Abnormal smear test result

Hello- I've just had my smear test result. I had the smear taken 5 weeks after I miscarried. The results are borderline and I have to go back in 6 months for a repeat. Apparently there can be all manner of reasons for abnormal cells and they can just right themselves. Does anyone know if miscarriage can cause abnormal cells on the cervix? I'm pretty pissed off tbh as its just been one accident/illness after the other, followed by a horrible miscarriage (I know there is no other kind), I can't TTC for at least another 6 months AND have to go back to the docs at that point for another smear, which may show more serious changes which will put the feckin brakes on TTC AGAIN. I know my health is important blah blah, but ARGHHHH!

Also, I had the opportunity to read my medical notes earlier- big mistake, it brought the miscarriage memories back as if it was yesterday. Feeling like poo-2009 clearly isn't my year.

Anyway- sorry for whinging- any advice you have on my earlier question would be gratefully received!

Hiya, poor you. I had an abnormal smear result after having my little girl 3yrs ago. I was told that having a baby was the likely reason for changes in cells being detected so maybe your pregnancy although it didn't last ( sorry ) could be the reason. I still have smears every 6 months and they have been normal since, try not to worry

If your cell changes are only mild in 6 months then there's nothing to stop you trying to conceive. Obviously, you're doctor will confirm this

Hi
I've previously posted a few things about borderline changes, if you have a search on my name (sorry am on iPod and can't cut and paste).
Without actually seeing your sample it'd be difficult tell whether the mc had anything to do with it . The hormonal changes can sometimes be tricky to 'read' or 'interpret', or there could be some inflammation, particularly if you had any procedures or examinations.
Usually borderlines go back to normal - around 4-5% of women having a Pap test each year will have a borderline result.
Talk to your GP about your concerns and they can go through it with you.
The NHS screening programme has a useful website.
