Was running my 18 month olds bedtime bath and he grabbed a j cloth off of the side and sucked on it. I grabbed it off of him but earlier I had used it with my muscle bathroom cleaner to clean the sink.

I am now sick with worry that I've harmed him. I called my mum and she said not to worry as did dh. But I'm still terrified.

Ds is now sound asleep and Im in floods of tears.

If it's harmed him he would have been sick. I am sure he will be fine.

missmapp · 05/04/2009 19:45

Im sure he couldnt have got enough to harm him with one suck! But if your worried ring NHS direct, they may be able to put your mind at ease.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 05/04/2009 19:45

Don't worry, there wouldn't have been an left after you rinsed it, maybe just a foul taste. You wouldn't have caused any harm to him, it's not like he drank any.

My friend's ds once drank the water in her loo brush holder, obviously it contained bleach as well as the unmentionable. He was fine. You may want to call NHS Direct though.

TheCrackFox · 05/04/2009 19:49

Well your baby will be fine. The best thing to do is phone NHS Direct and have a chat with them. They have a list of what is poisonous and will be able to advise.

My DS2 (18 months at the time) managed to get into a childproof locked cupboard and squirt stuff all over his face and eyes. I was hysterical, honestly I needed slapped. I phoned up docs and they had to tell me to calm down and they checked the ingredients and told me he would be just fine.

You are Not a crap mum, all DCs have accidents.

Thanks for your replies. I am feeling a bit better. He's just the most precious and special boy in my life and the thought I could have hurt him just ripped me up.

Think something like this has happened to everyone. My ds once drink my contact lense solution that was standing around in the little pot after I put them in. I was absolutely terrified, he was ok though thankfully.

acebaby · 05/04/2009 20:57

a few weeks ago, DS2 stuck the nozzle of a squirtable de-icer in his mouth. It was entirely my fault as he wasn't even mobile at the time (had put him down with the deicer in reach ). It was the worst moment of my life, but he was fine.

I'm sure your DS is fine if he didn't seem upset at the time and doesn't have any sign of facial irritation, but it might be an idea to speak to NHS direct to set your mind at rest.

FlaminSnowball · 05/04/2009 22:43

Thanks for all of your help. I am still a bit terrified. I keep checking on him every half hour. Want to do me check with nhs direct but dh thinks I'm being overdramatic. Looking forward to a night of no sleep. X

Sorry you were so upset. I keep my cleaning things on a shelf in the bathroom so high I need a stool for it! I recommend it for reducing stress.
