Blue fingers and hands - Is this a circulation problem? Something else?

Recently I've noticed that my hands often go really cold and parts of them change to a blue or purpley colour, also really white in areas. They look how I imagine "dead" hands to look to put it bluntly .

The areas affected vary but quite often its the ends of fingers, around knuckles or patchy areas on the palms even.

I do also have a problem with Reynaulds in a few fingers but this seems to be very different (I don't get the Reynaulds strange numbness and tingling when I get this blue/purple/white hands and fingers thing).

The weather doesn't even have to be cold for it to happen.

Do I need to see my GP, could it be connected to anything else or is it just one of those things that you have to live with?

I would see your GP, there are other illnesses/vitamin dificiencies that can cause this aswell so it's best to check.

Its def good to check. I have the same and was referred to a rheumy,. After blood tests, a cervical rib x-ray and tests for ulnar nerve/carpal tunnel I was told that although I do have some minor ulnar nerve entrapment my problem is raynauds. Even right now, despite it being warm and wearing a thick jumper I have one entirely blue hand and one normal coloured hand. odd!

Thanks both.

OhYouBadKitten -have you been given anything thats helped the Reynaulds? (medication or advice)

Quick reply - school run time! I'm now on nifedipine. It helps somewhat with the worst of it and certainly my chilblains improved after a couple of weeks or so after starting it. Side effects not too bad - a lot of tiredness to start with for a few days, and I do get some flushing of my face now.

Advice was to keep warm above all else. Was a bit obvious really!

lol at "keep warm" -how many years at medical school to dish out advice like that
