its a bit under control, i take medication for it, but its still there the meds only help a little.
if you're eating pale bland stuff, that might be why your BM is a light colour?

Iworryalot · 31/03/2009 09:21

Thanks yes could be why .
My doc wanted to give me medication but im trying to keep under control myself ..
i do a little CBT and yoga when i can and going to try Hypnosis that has good reports so i here , the lady i see also has done reflexology and relaxing exercises which have helped , trying to re jig the negative thought pattern , think more poitivly (spell) bit that as you probably know is quite hard ...

One thing which really helped my IBS was altering the times of drinking.
I have two mugs of warm water first thing, wait half an hour before breakfast, no drinks with breakfast until an hour later.
This carries on through the day - I only drink half an hour before or an hour after a meal - and other times as thirst dictates obviously.
I also wonder if the F&F contains wheat - might be worth trying to go without.
And short grain brown rice from the health food shop is the one to go for - it stays in the bowel for longer and has a binding and de-toxing effect.
A lot of people swear by aloe vera juice, which tastes vile but I think you can get capsules now. Good luck.

Iworryalot · 31/03/2009 09:56

im glad the medication is working for you and who knows may be next step for me to ,im going to carry on for a while and give this hypnosis a try to and see after that ...
Iv gor some aloe vera to but not taken yet ..
im taking slow iron , capsule probotic , digestive enzyme and multi vit ...wow that sounds a lot .. but i do forget to take sometimes ..maybe i should skip the gluten free today and see what happens ... althought was nice to have a normal ish BM formed together for a change ...

Hi, just wanted to add my experiences.

I started with IBS after a bout of "foreign holiday tummy". After trying much of the chemist's stock I eventually learned that certain foods/drinks made it worse.

I couldn't eat onions and oranges. I couldn't drink orange juice, tea, coffee and alcohol.

I then felt quite a lot better but still had bouts of IBS.

So I rang Weleda who make homeopathic remedies and spoke to the pharmacist there. He recommended a product and basically it worked. It was called Colocynthis 6 and basically cured me. After a year or two the IBS came back, but I tried the little pills again and it worked again!

I only occasionally get an attack now, which I know is usually down to stress, and in the last couple of years I have introduced all the above food/drink back into my diet and I can enjoy all of them now in moderation.

I'm not saying that Homeopathic medicines work for everyone, (the migraine stuff doesn't work on me) but it might be worth a go.

here's a link to Weleda

You could also try cutting out the Fruit & Fibre and see what happens, if the GF bread seems to be helping.
And the drinking thing definitely made a huge difference to me.

Iworryalot · 31/03/2009 10:21

thanks both , will look into your suggestions,i know many people live with this day in day out and as my specialist said mine is a mild dose ....but to me its a really big dal and am worried im not well , ie not absorbing vit right ,and inside organs are being effected ..
i googled to and that scared me to bits to ..

I also have found that drinking Rooibos/Redbush tea (in copious quantities!) helps the crampy feelings. It's got anti-spasmodic qualities, and really calms down the tummy.

Peppermint tea does as well, but I find the Rooibos is better for me.

marmitebabe · 31/03/2009 10:58

I have ibs and anaemia but find the iron tabs block me up if that helps - doesn't help me but hey ho!
Aloe vera juice is great for ibs though, never heard of the Colocynthis thing.

girlandboy · 31/03/2009 11:07

There's a soluble iron supplement that's not meant to bung up the works! It comes in sachets, but I can't remember the name. Perhaps someone else can. A friend of mine can't take the tablets, but can take the sachets.

Floradix is a liquid form of iron supplement too.

marmitebabe · 31/03/2009 11:13

Tried the soluble iron supplement but its not strong enough for me - I can't retain iron and don't absorb it too well either and I'm trying to avoid the injections. Pharmacist has recommended slow release tabs, Ferrograd, and I'm trying them out but gp doesn't think they will be strong enough either.

Sorry to hijack thread

Iworryalot · 31/03/2009 11:29

OP posts:
marmitebabe · 31/03/2009 11:38

Lucky you ! Solgar not strong enough for me - Ferritin very low - thanks anyway.

I think you just need to try everything and find out what works for you, every body is different.
Good luck.

Iworryalot · 31/03/2009 12:06

what count was your ferritin mine was under 10 last count last sept ..
i have v heavy monthlys and a short cycle so this doesnt help ,
