What is wrong with my foot?

LadyTrimmer · 30/03/2009 19:45

A few weeks (3 maybe) ago one of my feet started to hurt. It hurts on the sole of my foot under my heal.

It the sensation is kind of like my bone is contacting the floor with every step I take (although I know that it obviously isn't IYSWIM that is just the best way for me to describe it). It seems to be getting worse rather than better and as my car is being serviced tomorrow I am dreading the walk to work.

Any ideas or suggestions (other than the obvious rest and ibuprofen)?

Plantar Fasciitis causes this type of pain.
www.mayoclinic.com/health/plantar-fasciitis/DS00508 is a good link for info.

Boots do good insoles, not cheap but they do work. This killed my feet last summer and they really helped. Do you wear flat unsupportive shoes? Birkenstocks knackered my feet.

LadyTrimmer · 30/03/2009 20:08

I do tend to wear flat shoes (I don't do heals). They are hush puppies at the moment so I wouldn' say they are unsupportive.

I will have a look at the link in a mo. Is this a permanent condition?

Yes Boots do some gel pads you can put in your shoe under where your heel contacts the shoe. Should help to cusion the shock as you walk. I used them when I got 'crack heel'.

LadyTrimmer · 30/03/2009 20:47

Sounds exactly like that...not fancying the long recovery suggested on the links I have looked at.

are these the recommended insoles?

No. These Scholl gel ones are the type I had.

They do various tyes of gel cushions at Boots so do take a careful look at all the types they have to see what suits.

Although the Scholl ones say Ball of Feet on the packet I found they were good for my heel.

Gel Foot Cushions

The insole ones you linked to may also work of course but ask the pharmacist who I am sure will be happy to help you choose.

Would plantar fasciitis also cause the ankle to swell?

LadyTrimmer · 30/03/2009 21:34

I have had those party feet insoles previously and hated them (although that was for the pain in the balls of my feet caused by unaccustomed wearing of slight heals).

I have just ordered these from Tesco as an interim solution until I can get to boots.

The insoles I bought in Boots were a firm plastic type,(dark blue in colour) about £20, but worth every penny. They feel weird at first, then bliss as they stretch your arch .

The condition isn't permenanent, if you use insoles and change the type of shoes you wear.

I have plantar fascitis at the moment I've found spraying it with Deep Freeze spray helps, try to stretch your foot as well. The gel pads help. It's bloody sore!
