Had blood tests recently for a range of minor ailments, thought anemia was likely, and got a phone call today saying to go to the surgery as they had my results and the Dr would like to see me.
Should I be worried, wouldn't they have just written a prescription for iron tablets if it was that. Don't normally worry about things like this!

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Maybe they need more tests to determine the cause of the anaemia? don't get yourself in a state, just go to the appt.

LIZS · 30/03/2009 14:24

They often like to see you again before prescribing, just as a matter of routine

MIAeatingeggs · 30/03/2009 14:32

Thanks for the reassurance, don't know why I am worrying! Something must be bothering me as I even did a pregnancy test to rule out that, even though I was nearly 100% sure it wasn't that!

Will just have to wait and see now, doesn't help that I am impatient and have to wait 2 days.

I had this awhile ago. I had an ultra sound scan for suspected gall stones. the following week I had a call asking me to come in as the GP wanted to discuss my results, I was a gibbering wreck, convinced myself that i must have something awful as she wanted to see me.

I was fine, the results were completely clear. I asked why i needed to come in for this and was told that was how it was done now.

Try not to worry (ha! I know that is impossible) hope you are ok.

MoreTeaPlease · 30/03/2009 14:46

Yes would be bad practice to prescribe even just iron without seeing you to explain.

MIAeatingeggs · 30/03/2009 14:46

Thanks mehgalegs, glad you were ok.

The receptionists at my surgery will tell me results over the phone. You could call back and ask for the results?

Musukebba · 30/03/2009 20:42

Erm... just let's ask ourselves whether that is what GP surgery receptionists are trained to do.

There's only one way to receive "results" of a test, and that is when they are given by someone with a clinical qualification, preferably the person ordering the tests in the first place, and especially with some sort of interpretation.

MIAeatingeggs · 31/03/2009 16:55

Thanks all, only one more day to wait.

Popping in to see how you are MIA - hope all is well

MIAeatingeggs · 01/04/2009 17:52

Thanks mehgalegs! All fine, was indeed anaemia and yes, Hectate was right, they did just want to discuss the reasons behind it. Am relieved that now know what it is and have iron tablets! Should hopefully start feeling more normal soon.

Hooray (well not hooray that you are anaemic obviously) but hooray that nothing too serious and can be sorted. Hope you feel better soon.

BecauseImWoeufit · 02/04/2009 13:29

Missed this - hope all is OK!

Iklboo · 02/04/2009 13:31

Yes - don't ask the receptionist. I phoned our doctors for a result of tests and she told me I had tested positive for rheumatoid arthritis! Went to doc and he said while the result was slightly elevated I did not have RA
