Have taken canesten tablet & cream to no avail, and the itch is more externally than internal IYSWIM but it's bloody maddening!
Can't see any reason for it but any ideas before I go to the docs?

allergy to washing powder?, sweat rash?... stop wearing polyester knickers

blondiep14 · 28/03/2009 18:30

don't think it's any of the above (definitely not poly drawers) !!!

Is there redness around the itch or any broken skin?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 28/03/2009 18:59

it might still be thrush. the tablet doesn't always work for me and i don't always get internal itching.
if the GP confirms taht it is thrush see if he/she can give you a rx for more than just the 3 days they usually give.

Elibean · 28/03/2009 19:26

Agree, could still be thrush, but if it isn't there are other things it could be. I'd see GP (friend's dd had lichen sclerosis, very itchy - also fairly unlikely, afaik, but they thought it was thrush for a while).

no broken skin or redness as far as i can see - guess a trip to the quacks it is!

blondie I have had same symptoms for 6 months now - i've tried canestan a couple of times..no good. Have started taking acidophilus tablets from health food shop (not usually a homeopath person but couldn't think what else it was) but joy of joys this additional boost of bugs works - so I guess it is a type of thrush but it needs more than 3 days canestan...got to be worth a go!

blondiep14 · 28/03/2009 20:25

Ooooh, that's handy to know MrsFreud, how do they work then (excuse my ignorance) I shall get some and try them. I would try anything (apart from the doctors so far!).

I used to get recurrent thrush that did not respond to Canestan. The GP can give you different stuff that woks better.

Its a probiotic and there is evidence in medical literature that probiotics can decrease the risk of candida overgrowth. Apparently stress as well as antib's can cause thrush..which would explain it for me...who isn't huh?
