I had my tubes tied 3 months after having my last child 15 years ago.

I did have some abdominal pain when I woke from the anaesthetic but it got getter after having 2 cocodamol tablets. The pain initially felt a bit like contractions.

Anecdotally people often say that their periods have changed, often saying that they are heavier but there is no evidence for that. I have to say mine stayed the same initially. Getting older changes them.

I made sure I rested when I got home - I took to bed for a couple of days. There wasn't actually any need for that - I just wanted pampered! All I did was read magazines, eat chocolate and breastfeed.

Some women complain of shoulder tip pain because of the gas used to inflate your abdomen but I had no problem with that at all. The tiny scars healed really well and you cannot actually see them.

I found the whole thing absolutely fine.

Thankyou so much Mears for answering- yes thats just the sort of thing I was after.

I second what Mears has said, right down to the pampering, I did that too

I had my tubes done 6 years ago and it was a breeze, no problems whatsover and extremely liberating knowing I didn't have to give any thought to contraception.

I found that too PringlePopper - it is good to know that the effect is instant unlike vasectomy.

I was sad though at knowing that I could not have another baby because I would have loved to have more, but pregnancies would have become more complicated and I knew I had to do something that would be final.

If DH had had a vasectomy I am sure I would have tried to sneak in another baby while he was getting rid of live sperm

PringlePopper · 29/03/2009 15:21

Yes, I can relate to the sadness of not being able to have another baby too. The daft thing is I'm now approaching menopause and I'm feeling it again, even though being steralized took care of that years ago!

I know what you mean about sneaking a baby in too. I've sometimes thought it would be good if a clip slipped and let a determined little sperm through.

mears · 29/03/2009 15:25

Me too! My friends think I am daft but would have a baby tomorrow if I could

PringlePopper · 29/03/2009 15:40

Bet you don't imagine you're pushing a pram when wheel your wheelie bin to the end of the drive though! I blame the perimenopausal hormones, they can make a woman do all kind of weird things

Thanks for your responses!
