Misdee, I have had recurring tonsillitis since I can remember and they should really do it for your DD - have you asked the GP outright if they'll refer her?

They told me I was too old when I was 10 But it's meant that I've had years where I can get it 6+ times a year. In fact about 8 years ago I had it 10 times in a year, and the amount of antibiotics I had to take they think caused my IBS.

Although, and I could be wrong, I've heard that even after removal they may still be prone to the infections.

Hope your DD is better soon

They hope that children will grow out of it these days....Dd is 5 now and last year had 5 lots of antibiotics in 3 months..she was hardly at nursery between Jan-April. The doc said they wouldn't consider taking them out before the age of 6 (for 2 reasons, the GA and the hope of growing out of it) but I was more or less resigned to having them done...and lo and behold, touch wood, this year, not a single bout....

Emmazing- I'd keep pushing...I had mine out at 21 after being on anti-biotics for the whole of my last year at uni- so many that my front teeth lost all their enamel (I was a real doll) I know they prefer not to do it these days, but if you are constantly infected.....I've never had any problems since having them out, OK, the odd sore throat with a cold sort of thing, but nothing serious.

Just wanted to say for your dd, Misdee.

I have always suffered from tonsilitis and actually seemed to get worse as I got older (although haven't had it this year yet).

My first pregnancy symptom is tonsilitis as well!

y new GP actually remarked on my last visit that she wasn't sure why I hadn't had them out as a child and my parents were never spoken to about it.

Hope she gets better soon.
